Research Assistant for Oskar Eriksson's Research Group
The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on, among other things, cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. One of the core ideas at the department is to stimulate translational research and thus promote closer collaboration between medical research and healthcare. Research is conducted within six research programs: cancer precision medicine, cancer immunotherapy, genomics and neurobiology, molecular tools and functional genomics, neuro-oncology and neurodegeneration, as well as vascular biology. Parts of the activities are also integrated with the departments of oncology, clinical genetics, clinical immunology, clinical pathology, and hospital physics at Uppsala University Hospital. The department has teaching assignments in several program educations, independent courses, and international master's programs within the medical faculty. The department has a turnover of approximately 550 million SEK, of which about two-thirds are external research grants. The number of employees is about 400, of which about 100 are doctoral students, and there are a total of over 850 active in the workforce. Job Description
We are looking for a research assistant for Oskar Eriksson's research group at the Department of Immunology, Genetics, and Pathology. The group's research is focused on translational studies of the complement system and the innate immune system and is funded, among other things, by the Swedish Research Council and the Swedish Society for Medical Research (SSMF) (https://www.uu.se/institution/immunologi-genetik-och-patologi/forskning/vaskularbiologi/oskar-eriksson (https://www.uu.se/institution/immunologi-genetik-och-patologi/forskning/vaskularbiologi/oskar-eriksson)).
The holder of the position will assist in a project investigating endothelial cell-specific expression of complement factors and its significance for endothelial cell activation and blood clot formation, using experimental methods as well as publicly available RNAseq and proteomics datasets. The group's work is translational, and there is an opportunity to verify experimental findings in clinical materials.
Job responsibilities include culturing endothelial cell lines and primary endothelial cells from human tissues, as well as mapping and phenotypic characterization of expressed complement factors. An important goal of the project is to establish a cell-based screening method to analyze endothelial cells' ability for complement and blood coagulation activation.
The project involves working with advanced cell models and techniques such as CRISPR and lentiviral overexpression of proteins, as well as analysis methods such as flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy. Other tasks in the project include recombinant expression of proteins and purification of proteins and antibodies from plasma. The position offers good opportunities for development within biomedical research and serves as a strong platform for further doctoral studies in the field.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Very good practical laboratory experience and knowledge of molecular biology techniques.
- Very good experience in cell culture work.
- Documented experience in compiling and presenting results orally and in writing.
- Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.
Desirable/meritorious
- Experience in using CRISPR techniques and lentiviral transduction in cell culture models.
- Experience in experimental research within vascular biology.
About the Employment
