Building Inspector at the City Planning Office

The City Planning Office is planning for a future Stockholm on behalf of the City Planning Committee. We work with urban planning both at a macro and micro level, building permits, city measurement, property formation, and housing adaptation. The City Planning Office has about 340 employees and we are centrally located in Kungsholmen, about a ten-minute walk from Stockholm Central Station. In the building permit department, you will be part of an organization with about 100 dedicated employees who work together to shape and develop the built environment.
The department consists of 7 units for inspection, building permits, supervision, housing adaptation, and the building permit office, which creates a broad competence and good opportunities for collaboration and learning. The department is responsible for the entire process surrounding building permits and notification matters as well as for supervising illegal construction. Important aspects include checking ventilation and elevators, as well as investigating and deciding on housing adaptation grants for people with permanent disabilities, work that makes a real difference in people's everyday lives.
The inspector unit where the position is located consists of 17 building inspectors and a unit manager. As a building inspector with us, you will have an important and developing job. You will work with a variety of tasks in the implementation phase according to the Planning and Building Act while always providing citizens with high service and a professional approach. As a building inspector, you will be responsible for your cases in close collaboration with colleagues in the unit. All employees have the opportunity to participate in various working groups and be involved in the department's development work. We need two building inspectors to work in a temporary position until January 2027.

Your role
As a building inspector, you will handle cases according to the Planning and Building Act (PBL) in the implementation phase, that is, what happens after a building permit has been granted. Your assignment includes working proactively with advice to stay one step ahead and help those involved avoid making mistakes. You will be responsible for your cases with support from colleagues who are eager to share knowledge and support each other. The role involves many points of contact with, for example, citizens, construction companies, builders, and responsible supervisors.
If you are interested in participating in the development work of the building permit department, there is an opportunity to participate in various working groups.
Your qualifications and experience
We are looking for someone who has:
- a post-secondary degree in construction technology, civil engineering, building engineering, or another education that we consider relevant to the position
- current knowledge of the Planning and Building Act (PBL)
- work experience as a building inspector within municipal operations
- good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
It is an advantage if you have:
- worked in the case management system Public 360°
- a valid B driver's license.

It is expected that you drive your cases forward, which requires you to be independent and decisive. You are both service-oriented and value collaboration with external contacts and your colleagues.
