The Swedish Customs has the mission to limit organized and large-scale crime and to prevent the illegal importation of narcotics and doping agents, alcohol, tobacco, weapons, and other goods that threaten life, health, and the environment. The Customs aims to reduce the number of criminal networks involved in drug, alcohol, or tobacco smuggling or economic crime.
The Criminal Investigation Department is responsible for the Customs' criminal investigation activities and technical intelligence gathering. The operations work within the framework of preliminary investigations of crimes or actions that will lead to preliminary investigations of crimes aimed at prosecuting the masterminds behind criminal activities, reducing the profitability of crime, and significantly disrupting criminal activities.
The Criminal Investigation Department consists of a national IT and technology center responsible for covert coercive measures, surveillance technology, and IT forensics. The Customs laboratory and four criminal investigation units are responsible for their respective geographical areas: south, west, east, and north. The units are divided into operational areas: surveillance, investigation of serious crimes, and investigation of volume crimes.
About the Position
Within the Customs' crime prevention, criminal investigators in the Criminal Investigation Unit primarily investigate crimes led by the Customs' preliminary investigation leaders or public prosecutors.
You will be part of the Criminal Investigation Unit's Crime Duty. This means you will actively participate in the operational phase of the preliminary investigation. Your primary task will consist of handling urgent cases involving detained individuals by:
- Conducting interrogations (with suspects and witnesses)
- Participating in searches and escorting individuals for interrogation when necessary
- Ensuring contact with representatives/lawyers and interpreters
- Collecting investigative materials
- Structuring, analyzing, and processing the investigative materials
- Compiling preliminary investigation protocols
- Overseeing social contacts with relatives of suspects
- Assisting prosecutors in court hearings when applicable
In addition, you will work with volume crime investigations. You may also collaborate with other functions within both the Customs and other authorities, both Swedish and foreign.
As we operate within a large geographical area, planned trips with overnight stays are common.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Post-secondary education in law, social sciences, criminology, or other academic education deemed relevant by the Customs. Alternatively, completed the Customs' crime prevention basic training or basic training in another crime-fighting authority that the Customs assesses as equivalent, with passing results.
- Relevant and current experience in investigations or relevant and current experience in other practical work within an authority, which the Customs deems relevant for the position.
- Good computer skills
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English and the ability to express yourself well in both spoken and written form
- Swedish citizenship
- Swedish driver's license, category B
It is advantageous if you have:
- Training in criminal investigation
- Experience working with crime prevention within an authority
- Language skills beyond Swedish and English
- Completed and approved weapons training (pistol)
- Completed and approved conflict management training (including communication, self-defense, OC spray, and baton)

The employment is a permanent position and begins with a six-month probationary period. Individual salary setting applies.
Domestic travel occurs, and limited foreign travel may also occur.
The position may involve on-call duty.
