About the job

If you are driven by a job with multiple contact points and have experience at sea, you now have the opportunity to work as a Ship Inspector in the Maritime Supervision section at the Swedish Transport Agency. In this role, you will conduct inspections through surveys and inspections, as well as operational controls over ships and ports. In addition, you will also supervise safety, the environment, and the working environment on ships and shipping companies.

The work as a Ship Inspector is very outward-facing and involves extensive contacts with the shipping and shipbuilding industry, as well as related business areas both in Sweden and abroad. This means that you will travel both within and outside the country. The job includes standby duty.

You will

  • inspect and survey Swedish and foreign ships
  • review drawings and technical documentation
  • conduct newbuilding/remodeling and flagging inspections
  • perform port state and flag state controls
  • be on standby duty with response for incidents and accidents.

You must have

  • degree as a ship captain or marine engineer with senior experience at sea as certified ship officer with qualifications according to STCW II/2 or III/2; without limitations of operational area alternatively a degree as a civil engineer in naval architecture with several years of experience in ship construction and shipbuilding industry
  • good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in both Swedish and English
  • driver's license (B).

It is meritorious if you also have

  • experience from technical inspection work on ships at shipyards/remodeling/newbuilding
  • experience from working at classification societies or shipbuilding industry
  • experience from case management within authorities.

The employment is permanent with placement in Kista. Appointment according to agreement. We normally apply a probationary period. An employment with us may involve placement in a security class. A security review with background check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) may therefore be conducted before a decision on employment. For some of our tasks in security class, Swedish citizenship is required.

About the Swedish Transport Agency

Areas of operation: The Swedish Transport Agency works to achieve good accessibility, high quality, safe and environmentally friendly transport within rail, aviation, shipping, and road. We develop regulations, grant permits, and monitor compliance. With the help of our registers, we work with fees, permits, and ownership transfers.
