Payroll Consultant at Karlstad Municipality

Description

Since April 1, 2025, Karlstad Municipality has a centralized payroll management system where all payroll administration is gathered in a common Payroll Center. The unit consists of 21 permanent payroll consultants and a payroll manager who together are responsible for driving and developing the municipality's payroll process.

The Payroll Center's mission is to ensure a uniform, efficient, and quality-assured payroll management system and to ensure that the correct salary is paid on time to all employees within Karlstad Municipality.

Your Mission

As a payroll consultant, you have a central role in the organization and are responsible for ensuring that the payroll process is carried out correctly, professionally, and with a high level of service. You work closely with managers, employees, HR, and finance, and have contact with external actors and authorities.

Responsibilities

• Register, check, and ensure the quality of payroll data according to applicable regulations and procedures
• Provide support, guidance, and advice to managers and employees on payroll issues, systems, and processes
• Plan and conduct training and information initiatives as needed
• Collaborate with HR, finance, and authorities on issues related to salary, agreements, and compensations
• Actively participate in development and improvement work focusing on digital, efficient, and sustainable working methods

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with post-secondary education in payroll or equivalent experience gained through work life. You have several years of experience in payroll work, preferably from larger organizations or the public sector, and possess good digital skills as well as experience working systematically in various systems. In your role, you enjoy working independently and can provide advice and support in a professional and engaged manner.

Meritorious

• Experience with the personnel and payroll system Heroma
• Knowledge of General Terms (AB) and other municipal agreements
• Experience in pension administration
• Experience or interest in system management
• Experience in payroll reviews

You take responsibility for your assignment, follow procedures, and ensure that payroll work maintains high quality and is delivered on time. In your interactions with managers and employees, you communicate clearly and pedagogically, adapting your message to the recipient and contributing to understanding of payroll-related issues and regulations. You are eager to share your knowledge and contribute to a positive and trusting work environment.

At the same time, you are curious and development-oriented, with an interest in digital solutions and new working methods. You see improvement work as a natural part of the assignment and actively contribute to developing effective, sustainable, and quality-assured processes.
