Communicator for the Department of Environmental and Geological Sciences

Research and education at the Department of Environmental and Geological Sciences (MGeo) address fundamental and applied questions about the Earth's past, present, and future climate and environment, including human interaction with nature and the consequences for human well-being. MGeo develops and applies groundbreaking methods, models, and techniques in environmental science, Quaternary and bedrock geology, paleontology, physical geography, biodiversity and ecosystem science, remote sensing, geographic information science (GIS), and computational science in environment and health to study processes ranging from the microscopic to the planetary, across all timescales.
About the workplace
Recently, Lund University was ranked number one in the world for environmental and social sustainability, among other things based on the research areas available at the new Department of Environmental and Geological Sciences where this position will be placed.
We are now seeking a communicator for the department for a fixed-term employment of 12 months. You will help build the department's communication from the ground up, primarily focusing on the development of the new website, research and internal communication across various channels, as well as student recruitment and educational communication.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities will mainly consist of:
- Contributing to the development of the department's new website
- Contributing to the development of the department's communication strategy
- Creating and publishing content for web pages, social media, and newsletters
- Providing communicative support for researchers, writing research news and other texts
- Communication related to the department's educational programs
- Designing simpler materials and producing basic marketing materials
- Planning and participating in the execution of events
- Relevant environmental monitoring
The responsibilities may evolve and change during the employment period.
Requirements
- Degree in communication or equivalent experience deemed relevant by the employer
- Several years of experience as a communicator
- Experience in target group communication across various channels
- Excellent written and verbal skills in Swedish and English
- Documented experience working with the web as a publishing tool, publishing on social media, and familiarity with various software

At the Faculty of Science, research and education are conducted in biology, astronomy, physics, geoscience, chemistry, mathematics, and environmental science. The activities are conducted at eight departments located within the northern university area. The faculty has about 1,500 students, 360 doctoral students, and 700 employees.
