Research and Teaching

The research environment in Industrial Automation at the Department of Engineering focuses on smart and human-centered industrial automation with specialization in flexibility and Plug & Produce.

Our main goal is to develop the fundamental understanding of control strategies, with a particular focus on their impact on system flexibility and human interaction. In addition to research in automation, the department conducts teaching in the field of education in several programs (Automation Engineer (Bachelor's level), Robotics and Automation (Master's level), and AI and Automation (Master's level), as well as independent courses and commissioned education for students and professionals.

Job Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement methods that link automation to global sustainability goals and create solutions that benefit both industry and the environment.
• Teach at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels in relevant subjects.
• Supervise students, doctoral candidates, and research students to support the next generation of engineering talents.
• Participate in the development of new research applications to ensure future funding and promote academic growth.
• Actively contribute to the development of courses and educational programs at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels.
• Actively contribute to the development of the department and University West.

Eligibility Requirements for Employment as a University Lecturer:

• Scientific competence: Doctoral dissertation in one of the areas of production technology, automation, or robotics or equivalent.
• Demonstrated pedagogical skill (Chapter 4, Section 4 HF): Applicants lacking pedagogical merits from an academic environment must have competence equivalent to the university's eligibility requirements, although it may have been achieved in ways other than within the academic environment.
• Completed higher education pedagogical training of at least ten weeks or equivalent competence. If higher education pedagogical training is lacking, employment may still occur on the condition that the employee completes the training during the first two years of employment.
• Completed doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence or any other professional skill that is significant considering the subject content of the employment and the tasks to be included in the employment (Chapter 4, Section 4 HF).

For this position, the following is also required:

• Documented experience of applying for externally funded projects.
• Experience in teaching in the field of automation and robotics.
• Experience in leading research projects.
• Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating courses at both undergraduate and advanced levels in the field.

Desirable Qualifications for the Position:

• Documented experience of applying for external funding from Vinnova and the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth (EU-ERUF).
• Experience from work with relevant tasks for the position within the manufacturing industry.
• Documented experiences of collaborating with various project partners such as academia, innovation-supporting organizations, and industry.
• Experience teaching in both Swedish and English.

The employment is a permanent position. A six-month probationary period may be applied.
