JOB DESCRIPTION
The personal ombudsman is a role that involves working with clients over 18 years old who, due to their mental disabilities, have significant and long-term social disabilities that create major obstacles in daily life. The client's needs for care, support, and services are often complex. Contact with social services, primary care, and/or specialized psychiatry or other authorities is common. The client may also have substance abuse issues. It should be easy to receive support from the personal ombudsman; direct contact is what is required, and no referrals are needed; the service is free of charge.
The purpose of the role is to ensure that the individual receives the right help, advice, and support based on their own wishes, needs, and legal rights. The personal ombudsman does not exercise authority and therefore cannot decide on interventions. The personal ombudsmen are not responsible for care or treatment and cannot take over the authorities' responsibility for coordinating interventions.
As a personal ombudsman, you will work partly independently but collaborate with both outpatient care and the VÄXT house where you will help plan the municipality's activities based on social psychiatry.
As a personal ombudsman, you should also identify organizational system flaws that negatively affect the individual. Your role as an ombudsman may resemble that of a housing supporter within the municipality and as a contact person within psychiatry. This approach makes the work more cross-border, and as an ombudsman, you will become skilled at adopting various methods from both a medically oriented perspective and a more empowerment-oriented one, meaning that through support, you increase the person's self-empowerment, leading to development, greater self-trust, and increased power and control over their daily life. Another important part of the job involves, in combination with an empowerment-oriented perspective, strengthening the network around the person to both increase resources around the individual and help reduce stigma, i.e., prejudices about mental disabilities. Collaborating with other actors is also an important part of the work and being involved in the municipality's overall efforts regarding mental health, as well as participating in the Skåne Week and recovery café.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone with a degree in social work or equivalent competence, and at least three years of experience working with people in vulnerable life situations. You should have a professional approach that creates safety for the individuals you meet in your role. You should have a good ability to collaborate with both other personal ombudsmen and professional actors from the municipality, primary care, and other authorities that the person you support is in contact with.
As a person, you are secure in yourself, flexible, responsible, and have developed self-leadership. You find it easy to create contacts, collaborate, and are meticulous and structured.
You should have a good ability to establish contact with individuals and be proficient in the Swedish language, both spoken and written, as the work will involve tasks such as preparing operational reports, accounting for funds, and drafting new applications.
