Summer Temporary Position as an Operator at the Police National Switchboard

Are you ready for a bigger task? The Swedish Police Authority is Sweden's largest authority with approximately 40,000 employees across the country. With us, you have the opportunity to contribute to the Police's mission – to increase safety and reduce crime in society.

We are now looking for students from the Police Education Program for summer temporary positions who want to work as operators at the Police National Switchboard during the summer period of 2025. The employment begins with a two-week full-time training that combines both theoretical and practical elements before you start working independently. To be considered for employment, it is a prerequisite that you can attend the training session and that you can work during June-August.

National Contact Unit

The National Contact Unit at the National Operations Department is primarily responsible for the Police Authority's service and citizen meetings. This means ensuring that citizens' needs are met when using e-services to report crimes or provide tips, visiting our receptions, or calling the police switchboard 114 14. Additionally, it has the main responsibility for handling passports, national ID cards, and service cards.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

We are a growing organization with exciting challenges. The primary task of the switchboard is to quickly, accurately, and professionally relay incoming calls to the Police Authority around the clock. The work involves contact with people who need police assistance for help and service. We have a high influx of calls and citizens reaching out to us with various inquiries.

You will receive calls and independently perform call sorting with subsequent tasks. You are responsible for providing good service to both internal and external contacts, providing information and guidance to citizens, and contributing to maintaining good cooperation both internally and externally. The goal of the operation is to increase the proportion of cases that can be resolved in the first instance without being forwarded. Additionally, you will actively participate and contribute to the development of the operation.

You will gain extensive and solid knowledge about the Police Authority's organization and its societal function. We operate according to the police's values.

QUALIFICATIONS

This is an opportunity for you who have:

  • are a police student and have completed at least term 1 (term 1 must be completed by the start of employment)
  • completed and passed high school diploma
  • very good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written
  • good knowledge of English in speech
  • good computer skills and preferably experience working in multiple parallel programs.
  • a life situation that allows you to work shift work (daytime, evening, weekends, and nights).

It is advantageous if you also have:

  • work experience in service and/or telecommunications that the employer deems relevant for the role
  • relevant work experience in public service, for example, within the Social Insurance Agency, municipality, county council, and correctional services
  • work experience in emergency services that the employer deems relevant
  • language skills in non-Nordic languages

Personal Characteristics

As you will be working with the phone as your primary tool, we are looking for someone with good communication skills, which means you have the ability to listen, steer conversations, and ensure that your message gets across. You have the ability to make correct assessments and priorities in conversations and can empathize with the caller's perspective without letting the person's emotions take over. You value completing your tasks in a professional and sustainable manner while functioning well in an environment where you sometimes need to quickly change pace. Your current colleagues describe you as a stable and meticulous person who is easy to collaborate with. Since we meet citizens in all situations in life, it is also required that you have a good ability to handle more serious conversations.

We will place great emphasis on personal characteristics.
