Strong research and attractive programs attract researchers and students from all over the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, Gothenburg University contributes to a better future.
The Education Unit is one of ten units within the university's shared administration. Around 140 people work at the unit. The unit's mission includes supporting students and prospective students before, during, and after their studies through guidance, admissions, examinations, and graduation. The Education Unit also provides support and service to departments and faculties in handling educational administrative matters. We manage and develop system support for study administration. Read more about the unit (https://www.gu.se/om-universitetet/hitta-organisation/utbildningsenheten).
Within the unit, we work based on the values of openness, collaboration, professionalism, and clarity to maintain our good work environment with a respectful, inclusive, and pleasant climate between colleagues and system users. The Education Unit is HBTQI-certified.
We are now looking for you who want to work as an exam invigilator! As an exam invigilator/assistant, you will belong to the Examination Section, which today consists of administrators and exam invigilators working in the university's shared writing halls. More information about the section can be found here: The Examination Section (https://www.gu.se/om-universitetet/hitta-organisation/sektionen-for-tentamen).
Responsibilities
In the role of exam invigilator, you are responsible for ensuring that students writing exams in Gothenburg University's shared writing halls can do so in a legally secure manner. You ensure that the exam can be started and submitted correctly (either digitally or on paper), check that the student is registered for the respective exam, and has valid identification. The role of exam invigilator also includes working to detect any misleading behavior and reporting such cases.
In the role of exam invigilator, you meet many students, so correct and professional treatment is important. It is natural for you to treat all students respectfully, and at Gothenburg University, we have zero tolerance for all forms of discrimination and offensive treatment.
Qualifications
The position requires that you have experience with tasks as an exam invigilator at a university or college.
As an exam invigilator, you must master Swedish and English well, both in speech and writing. It is an advantage if you are familiar with the examination regulations at Gothenburg University as well as the Discrimination Act.
In the role of exam invigilator, you always work in a team, which requires good collaboration skills. In addition, we are looking for someone who is meticulous, flexible, and can handle a work environment where the pace is sometimes high. As a person, you are clear and treat students in a professional manner. You are confident in yourself and can also handle confrontations that may arise in connection with the exam situation. You are attentive and must be ready to intervene at any suspected violation of rules to ensure the quality of the operations.
Today, the majority of exams in the writing hall are digital (approx. 90%), while paper exams make up a smaller share. The digital exams are written in a digital system that you, as an exam invigilator, also work in. A prerequisite is therefore that you are comfortable working in various digital systems and can quickly absorb new technology and new programs and integrate this into your work. Within Gothenburg University, the work is primarily done in a Windows environment, but many students use Mac computers.
During digital hall exams, you, as an exam invigilator, are responsible for IT support to the students. This means that you need to be able to handle connection to the wireless network, installation and updates of specific programs, as well as have knowledge of operating systems. The IT support also involves helping students manage the system in which the digital exams are written.
As an exam invigilator with us, you must not be a student at the basic or advanced level at Gothenburg University or at another university/college.
Employment
The employment is a fixed-term position located at the Examination Section within the Education Unit. Start date 2026-10-01 or by agreement, and ends 2027-08-31. Your official job title at the university will be Assistant.
The employment is part-time with a scope of 50%. The scheduling of working hours is governed by the needs of the operation and is determined as far as possible based on dialogue between the employer and the employee. Monthly salary is paid.
The position may be possible to combine with other part-time work.
