Building on the mother tongue, we foster pride, knowledge, and hope for the future in every student – and create bridges between cultures for a richer school experience.

Your Responsibilities

Do you want to give children and young people the key to their multilingualism and strengthen their goal achievement in school? As a mother tongue teacher in Romanian, you have an stimulating and independent role where you plan, conduct, follow up, and assess teaching based on the course plan for the subject of mother tongue as well as current grading criteria. The role also involves providing study guidance in the student's mother tongue when needed, which means individualized support where you help individual students grasp the content of the subject.

The work is characterized by great flexibility as your daily routine is based on teaching at various primary and upper secondary schools throughout Linköping Municipality (including independent schools). Depending on the size of the language group, you teach either in student groups gathered at a central school or at the student's home school. The teaching is scheduled outside the students' regular timetable and primarily takes place in the afternoons immediately following the end of the school day, but can occasionally take place in the morning. Digital tools are a natural part of the teaching and the documentation regarding the student's knowledge development. You have close cooperation with the students' guardians and collaborate closely with class teachers and staff at the relevant schools.

Your Workplace

The Multilingualism Activity belongs to the Special and Support Services area and has a municipality-wide responsibility for mother tongue teaching and study guidance in primary school, adapted primary school, upper secondary school, and adapted upper secondary school. Together with the schools, we have the mission to give students the opportunity to develop their multilingualism, multicultural identity, and competence, and to increase their goal achievement. We are driven by our strong value base where quality, knowledge, security, and joy are at the center to give every student the best possible conditions to grow.

With us, you become part of a multicultural and engaged collegium. We are organized in work teams, teacher groups, and language groups where we together develop the activity and exchange experiences. As a new mother tongue teacher in Romanian with us, you will get a secure start. We apply a structured introduction plan where you are assigned a personal mentor and receive close support from a work team leader. Through our network of experienced colleagues and collegial learning, we create a workplace where you have support throughout your entire pedagogical assignment.

You who apply

First and foremost, you who have a Swedish teaching license with eligibility in mother tongue Romanian. Secondarily, you who have a completed teacher education from another country (if foreign education, it must be validated by the Swedish Council for Higher Education, UHR). Thirdly, you who have an academic background comprising at least 30 higher education credits in the Romanian language, or other education/experience that the employer considers equivalent.

It is a requirement for the position that you have experience of curriculum-based schools, which means you are well acquainted with the curriculum's goals, structure, and value base. It is meritorious if your experience specifically comes from mother tongue teaching.

The position places high demands on your communicative skills. You must have documented good knowledge of speaking and writing in Romanian, as well as a very good linguistic level in Swedish in both speech and writing (equivalent to at least Swedish as a Second Language 3/B). A high level in the Swedish language is necessary for you to independently absorb information, work according to the Swedish curriculum (Lgr22), handle documentation and grading in our digital operational systems, and collaborate with class teachers and principals at the schools. You have good computer skills and see digital tools as a natural part of your work.

Since the work involves moving between up to 10–15 different schools during a week across Linköping Municipality, great demands are placed on your logistical skills. It is therefore a great advantage if you have a B-driver's license and access to a car for the position, or alternatively, that you can cycle or use public transport.

As a person, you are flexible and have the ability to adapt to changed circumstances when building your work week at different schools. You are social and communicative, have an easy time creating trusting relationships with both students and colleagues as well as guardians, and enjoy taking a place in new contexts. You are structured, take great personal responsibility for planning and prioritizing your work systematically, and maintain your calm even in stressful or changing situations. You have a genuine interest in seeing all students' unique conditions and helping them grow in their knowledge journey.
