About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation, remand prisons, and client transport.

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is to provide education on the upcoming children's and youth departments; primary school, upper secondary school, adapted primary school, and adapted upper secondary school. The environment is designed to meet the specific needs of this target group within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. The activity is part of the nationally cohesive educational activity which also includes education equivalent to Komvux (adult education). It aims to provide every student with an equal and high-quality education.

The education for children and young people is mainly conducted through on-site teaching, in a safe and structured environment. The education is integrated with other interventions within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, to support the development and future opportunities of children and young people.

As a study and career counselor, you will be located at the Headquarters in Norrköping. Regular travel is part of the position.

Job Description

As a study and career counselor, you play an important role in supporting students' future study and career choices. You work both preventively and guidance-oriented through individual conversations, group interventions, and information to students and guardians. The assignment includes guiding students before the upper secondary school choice and contributing to the development of students' decision-making competence, self-awareness, and knowledge of educational paths and working life. You collaborate closely with the principal, teachers, student health services, and external actors. You contribute to making study and career counseling a natural part of the learning center's joint work. In addition, you have a good ability to plan, implement, and follow up on guidance interventions for both individuals and groups. You need to have good communication skills and can adapt your guidance based on the student's individual needs. The work is carried out both individually and at the group and organizational level. As part of the work, you will work directly with the clients at their respective prisons.

Qualifications

In your role as a study and career counselor, you have the will and ability to motivate, inspire, and lead students to achieve their goals. You are clear and engaged in your work and have a good ability to create structure and systematic approaches. The work is carried out both independently and in close collaboration with colleagues, which is why good cooperation and initiative skills are important qualities, as well as the ability to work independently.

You are also aware of and have an understanding of how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. We are looking for you who have:

• Degree in study and career counseling
• Category B driver's license
• Ability to express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish
• Good computer skills and experience working with digital support systems

The following is also meritorious:

• Experience of guidance within schools
• Good knowledge of the education system and the labor market
• Ability to adapt guidance based on the individual's needs and prerequisites
• Structured and has good cooperation skills
• Experience of remote guidance
• Experience of working with people in a socially vulnerable situation
• Knowledge of relevant legislation
