RESPONSIBILITIES
Do you want to work professionally, in accordance with the rule of law, and at the same time be close to children and young people?
The Family Care Authority Unit in Gävle is looking for five dedicated social workers (barnsekreterare) who want to make a real difference.
Here, structure and quality are combined with warmth and commitment. Our starting point is simple but crucial: every child should grow up in a safe and loving environment. Through professional and long-term work, we create conditions for stability, development, and hope for the future for children and young people placed in foster care.
You will become part of a work group consisting of a unit manager, three senior caseworkers, 17 social workers, and our administrative support. Our workplace is centrally located in Gävle. We collaborate closely with the Family Care Support Unit.
As a new employee, you will have access to a mentor and undergo an individual introduction with internal supervision.
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for authority decisions according to the Social Services Act (SoL) and the Law on Care of Young Persons (LVU).
- Document, investigate, and make decisions in accordance with current legislation.
- Follow up on the child's development and care during placement.
- Conduct regular individual conversations with the child.
- Ensure the child's participation and make the child's voice heard.
- Collaborate with custodians, foster homes, schools, and other networks.
- Pay attention to and monitor the child's health, schooling, and social situation.
- Make regular trips to visit the placed children in their foster homes.
The position involves being the responsible social worker for children and young people placed in foster care. You are responsible for follow-up and lawful authority decisions, while simultaneously building trusting relationships and ensuring that the child's needs, rights, and participation are at the center throughout the process. The role involves some travel.
QUALIFICATIONS
You are a confident and dedicated social worker who always puts the best interests of the child first. You enjoy working long-term and see the value in building sustainable relationships over time, both with the children and their networks. By investing time and care in every contact, you can follow the children's development, see their progress, and truly reap the fruits of your work. For you, the role of a social worker is not just about making decisions, but about being there, creating safety, and making a real difference in children's lives for many years to come.
To be considered for the position, you have:
- A degree in Social Work (Social Worker/Socionom).
- A Category B driver's license for manual transmission vehicles.
- Driving experience.
Merits for the position:
- Experience in follow-up work with children and young people placed in foster care.
- Experience with long-term contacts within child and youth care.
- Experience in investigations and careful documentation.
- Training in Signs of Safety and Tejpning (a specific method/tool often used in Swedish social work contexts, kept as is or translated as "Taping/Strapping method" depending on context, here kept as specific training).
We are looking for someone who is:
- Structured and has good ability to prioritize and drive your work forward.
- Efficient and focused on quality and the rule of law.
- Non-hierarchical and respectful in collaboration with others.
- Flexible and confident in adapting to changed situations.
- Able to adapt your communication to the child's age and maturity.
- Enjoy meeting and talking with children and young people and building long-term professional relationships.
In accordance with Gävle Municipality's values, you have a good attitude towards people, collaborate well with others, and value high quality in your work.
Working with foster care means taking responsibility for something larger than yourself. It is a mission that requires both professionalism and heart.
Do you want to help create safety and hope for the future for children and young people?
A certificate of good conduct (extract from the police register) is required for this position. This will only be requested from the final candidate in the last step of the recruitment process.
We warmly welcome your application.
