The lower secondary school at Södermalmsskolan in Kristinehamn is now looking for a Special Needs Teacher in Swedish/Swedish as a Second Language. This is a substitute position starting 2026-08-10 or according to agreement.

About Södermalmsskolan

Södermalmsskolan belongs to the central school district and has approximately 850 students from preschool class to grade 9. Premises and the schoolyard are divided into F-3, 4-6, and 7-9, where each stage has its naturally defined area to promote play and activity. On the school, 130 competent employees work together to strengthen student goal achievement.

Responsibilities

You will work at stage 7-9 with a focus on Swedish and Swedish as a second language. Here, we expect you to adopt a relational perspective with a large focus on health-promoting and preventive work regarding student health services. A major focus is on supporting teachers in developing education that reaches everyone in the class.

You contribute to adapting the teaching so that all students, regardless of background, have equal opportunities to develop based on steering documents. You follow and document student learning, identify success factors, and drive development initiatives that strengthen teaching and student progression.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who:

  • are qualified to teach at stage 7-9 in Swedish/Swedish as a second language
  • have a special needs teacher degree, but we also welcome those who are at the end of their special needs teacher education
  • have previous work experience from the teaching profession
  • can express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish, as language is our primary tool

We consider it an advantage if you have previous experience in language and knowledge-developing work.

Your Profile

To succeed in the role as a special needs teacher with us, you are calm, stable, and controlled in stressful situations. You are self-reliant, take responsibility for your tasks, and find it easy to create structure in your planning and teaching. You must have good collaboration skills as you will work closely with both students and teachers at the school. This means that you listen, communicate, and support our students and teachers in a constructive way.

It is further important that you are relationship-building and have a good understanding of students' different prerequisites, as well as that you adapt your way of conveying messages.

Employment Terms

Employment Type: Permanent.
Duration: Permanent, start date: 2026-08-10 or according to agreement.

We ask you who have a teaching license and a special needs teacher degree to attach these with the application. If you are not a citizen of Sweden, the EU, EEA, or Switzerland and are offered employment, you must be able to prove that you have a valid work permit or are exempt from the obligation to have a work permit.
