The Department of Romance and Classical Studies was formed in August 2013 through a merger of departments. It is organizationally located within the Faculty of Humanities in the field of humanities.
Academic education in classical languages has been offered for a long time at the university. Today, courses in Greek and Latin are offered at both undergraduate and advanced levels. The doctoral programme leads to a PhD degree. The teaching covers texts written from 700 BC to the pre-modern era, and approximately fifty students study classical languages at the department. The teaching is primarily conducted by two senior lecturers and one professor. In addition, scientific research is conducted within the subjects, including linguistics and literary studies, as well as research in philology and text editing. An active research environment with seminars focused on literary studies, linguistics, philosophy, and medieval studies is available.

Job Responsibilities
The Teaching Assistant’s primary responsibility is to provide supplementary instruction in Latin and preferably Greek to beginner-level students. Secondarily, the role involves administrative support. Teaching takes place on campus.
Qualifications
To be eligible for employment as a Teaching Assistant, you must be a student at the undergraduate or advanced level, primarily at Stockholm University or at another university college. Applicants should ideally hold at least 60 higher education credits in Latin or equivalent subject competence. Credits in Greek are highly meritorious. The position also requires flexibility, good collaboration skills, and a service-oriented attitude.
It is meritorious to have teaching experience and previous work with study administrative systems or other forms of study administration.
The University will primarily consider applicants who, after a holistic assessment of competence, merits, skills, and personal abilities, have the best prerequisites to carry out the current tasks and contribute to the positive development of the operations. Applicants must be able to provide references upon request.
About the Position
The position is 40% and is fixed-term for the period 2026-08-24 to 2027-08-24, with the possibility of extension for up to two years.
