The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is divided into seven research programs, all focusing on different areas within cell and molecular biology: computational biology and bioinformatics, microbiology and immunology, molecular biology, molecular biophysics, molecular evolution, molecular systems biology, and structural biology. The scientific basis for our work lies in biology, but our research overlaps with other fields such as medicine, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, and physics. The department has over 200 employees, including around 60 PhD students.

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology offers a strong research environment with unique opportunities for synergies and collaborations between theoretical and experimental activities. Access to BSL2 and BSL3 laboratories with specific equipment enables advanced studies of pathogens.

The department is responsible for the international master's programs in Microbiology and Immunology, Molecular Cell Biology, and Bioinformatics, and also participates in most subject-specific courses within the Civil Engineering program in Molecular Biotechnology at Uppsala University.

The advertised position is located within the Microbiology and Immunology program. This is the largest program at the department, comprising seven research groups specializing in experimental research on various aspects of cell biology, infection biology, immunology, and microbiology. The position is linked to the SciLifeLab program, which means that core funding is available on site, totaling 15 million SEK over six years.

SciLifeLab is a national center for cutting-edge technological infrastructures supporting large-scale data- and hypothesis-driven research within molecular biosciences. SciLifeLab operates nationally and involves all major universities in Sweden, including the four founding universities: Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University, and Uppsala University. SciLifeLab brings together researchers across traditional disciplinary boundaries and promotes collaborations with industry, healthcare, public research organizations, and international partners. As a SciLifeLab Fellow, the recruited researcher will become part of the dynamic SciLifeLab community both locally in Uppsala and across Sweden. For information about the SciLifeLab Fellow program. The Subject Area

The call is directed at excellent applicants with research experience in experimental cellular microbiology or infection biology in the broadest sense. This may include cell biological, immunological, or molecular biological experimental studies at the organism or cell level.

Responsibilities

You will be working with:

• Research with an experimental focus, by establishing your own research group within the section and defining and planning research activities within the scope of the subject areas described above. Responsibilities include conducting experimental research within cellular microbiology or infection biology, including writing scientific papers, delivering scientific presentations at national and international meetings, and actively applying for and obtaining external research grants.
• Teaching, including course responsibility, course administration, and supervision of students, PhD students, and postdocs. Teaching will take place on courses relevant to/connected with the program's research directions.
• Administration in the form of leading the research group as well as collegial work at the department, section, and faculty level. This includes serving on committees, taking on responsibilities beyond your own research and teaching duties, participating in the evaluation and development of teaching and research activities, solving tasks together with colleagues, and helping and providing feedback to colleagues.
• Keeping up to date within your subject area and following societal developments that are relevant to your work at Uppsala University.

In the selection among qualified applicants, emphasis will be placed primarily on both scientific and pedagogical competence, with particular weight given to scientific skill. In addition, administrative competence, leadership skills, and collaboration skills will be considered.
