Within the Orthopaedic Operations Area at Skåne University Hospital (Sus), approximately 500 employees work. We are one of Sweden's largest orthopaedic operations with activities in both Lund and Malmö. Each year, we receive approximately 85,000 visits to our clinics and have about 6,700 inpatients. Children and adults of all ages visit our clinic for various orthopaedic conditions.

The Lund Orthopaedic Clinic provides highly specialized care and treats patients from the arthro, trauma, tumor, and pediatric sections. Here, plaster technicians, nursing assistants, nurses, doctors, counselors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, administrators, and medical secretaries work together. We work in cross-professional teams where collaboration, service, and high-quality care are cornerstones of our operations.

As a plaster technician at the orthopaedic clinic in Lund, you will be part of a team of plaster technicians staffing the clinic's two plaster rooms. You will work both independently and in close collaboration with other plaster technicians, doctors, and rehabilitation staff. Your duties include:

• Performing plaster treatments prescribed by doctors during daily clinic sessions.
• Scheduling own patients for plaster removal/re-application (including wound dressing changes if necessary).
• Adjusting orthoses.
• Serial casting for clubfoot.
• Plaster treatment for children with PEVA (Ponseti method) together with the clinic's physiotherapists.
• Plaster treatment prescribed by the diabetic foot clinic.
• Performing casting during surgery.
• Training medical students in plaster techniques.
• Medical record documentation, telephone advice, and handling cases in 1177.

Our plaster technicians are also scheduled for nursing assistant duties at the clinic during certain shifts to provide relief and variety in work. Your tasks during these shifts include, among other things, clinic work together with doctors, suturing, wound care, sample collection, and pre-op preparations. The clinic operates on weekdays during daytime hours.

The work offers both variety, stimulation, and is educational with opportunities for personal development, competence development, and participation in the clinic's development work.

Qualifications

We welcome you who have completed plaster technician training and are trained as a nursing assistant, meeting the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for a protected professional title, regardless of whether you studied under the previous or current program structure. Good language skills in Swedish, both spoken and written, are also required.

We would prefer that you have several years of experience both in performing plaster treatments and as a nursing assistant with good knowledge of orthopaedic care. It is also meritorious if you have experience with clinic work, pediatric orthopaedics, and advanced wound care (e.g., vacuum-assisted closure for difficult-to-heal wounds). If you also have experience with the systems Pasis and Melior, we see this as an advantage.

You need to be secure in your professional role and comfortable making your own assessments and independent decisions, although there will always be colleagues to discuss with. Furthermore, you are non-hierarchical, flexible, can handle varying work pace, and have good ability to prioritize and organize your work.

You need to show proof of a protected professional title from the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare. If you have not received your proof of protected professional title, grades (not just a diploma) from your nursing assistant education must be attached. If you were permanently employed as a nursing assistant on July 1, 2023, and lack proof, attach your employment certificate and your grades (not just a diploma) from your nursing assistant education. If you do not have the proof, you may be employed as a care assistant on a fixed-term basis, pending the proof.
