A Fresh Start on Gärdet
This summer, we take an exciting next step as our chef training program moves to new, inspiring premises on Gärdet. There, we will have the opportunity, together with the bakery training program, to build up Bistro Astar – a new concept where education, professional pride, and reality meet in everyday life. Here, our students will not only develop their skills in a safe and structured learning environment but also become part of a living operation where lunches are served and self-produced pastries meet real guests. In close interaction with working life, we create an educational environment where learning becomes meaningful, concrete, and future-oriented. For you who want to be part of building something new, this is a unique opportunity to shape an operation from the start – and together with colleagues and students, create a place filled with quality, job satisfaction, and hope for the future.
The position starts immediately or as soon as the right teacher is available.
About the Role
We are looking for a teacher for our chef training program within adult education. As a teacher at Bistro Astar, you will teach adult students both practically and theoretically in upper secondary courses within restaurant and large-scale catering, with a focus on professional skills, food handling, and kitchen production. The teaching will take place in an authentic environment this autumn as we open a lunch restaurant and catering service in connection with the school.
You will lead the teaching based on the Astar Model, where clear steps, teacher-led instruction, controlled understanding, and structured guidance create the best possible conditions for students' learning, security, and professional development.
You plan and conduct teaching that gives students the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to work professionally within restaurant and large-scale catering. This means you alternate between practical exercises and theoretical lectures on topics such as food and nutrition, meals and the industry, as well as cooking 1–4 according to GY25. Through a clear teacher-led approach, high quality, progression, and a strong link between theory and practice are ensured.
The role also includes actively sourcing, matching, and following up on APL (Workplace-Based Learning) placements. You collaborate closely with the industry and ensure that students receive relevant and high-quality practical environments where they have the opportunity to achieve course goals. You monitor student development, maintain contact with supervisors, and are responsible for assessment and grading, where APL is an integrated part of the education.
As a teacher with us, you work in close collaboration with working life right from the start of the education and support students on their path to employment, further studies, and a strong professional identity.
As a teacher and employee at Astar, you base your work on our value foundation – professional pride, perseverance, and job satisfaction. This means you maintain a high professional level, take full responsibility for student learning, have high expectations, and contribute to a positive and developmental learning climate. You build good relationships with both students and the industry and actively contribute to an engaged and solution-focused work team where student development is always at the center.
We are looking for you who are a trained chef with at least 2 years of professional experience and a strong interest in teaching your craft. Education as a vocational teacher within restaurant and large-scale catering is highly meritorious, as is previous teaching experience.
We Offer
- A workplace where you can grow and develop.
- A team that supports each other and celebrates successes together.
- The opportunity to truly impact people's lives.
