About Internationella Engelska Skolan Kista
Internationella Engelska Skolan (IES) Kista is part of Sweden's largest and most successful network of bilingual schools and welcomes students in grades F–9. About the Role
As a teacher in our preparatory class, you play a central role in giving newly arrived and multilingual students a secure and structured start in the Swedish school system.
The role includes:
- planning, implementing, and evaluating teaching in Swedish as a Second Language (SVA) for students in the preparatory class
- mapping and following the students' linguistic and knowledge development
- creating individually adapted teaching plans based on the students' needs
- teaching individually, in small groups, and if necessary through co-teaching in regular classes
- identifying needs for extra adaptations and special support
- collaborating closely with subject teachers, mentors, special needs educators, the student health team, and school management
- supporting colleagues in working with language-developing methods and differentiated teaching
- having a close and clear dialogue with guardians regarding the students' language development and schooling
- documenting, following up, and evaluating the students' development
- working in accordance with IES three core values: Command of the English Language, A Safe and Orderly Environment, and High Academic Expectations.
Who are you?
We are looking for you who are a confident and clear leader with a good understanding of multilingualism, second language acquisition, and the learning of newly arrived students.
You have the ability to create strong and trusting relationships with students of different ages. You see opportunities and strengths in a multicultural school environment and have high expectations of all students' ability to develop.
You are structured, flexible, and analytical. You can work independently but also enjoy collaborating with colleagues regarding the students' development and needs.
Your Qualifications
We are looking for you who have:
- a teaching degree and teaching certification with eligibility to teach Swedish as a Second Language
- knowledge of newly arrived students' learning and language development
- good familiarity with relevant regulatory documents and mapping materials
- good ability to communicate in English, as English is a common working language at the school
- good digital competence and experience with pedagogical documentation.
It is particularly meritorious if you have:
- a special needs teacher degree, preferably with a focus on language, writing, and reading development
- experience working in a preparatory class
- experience teaching students in several different age groups
- experience mapping the knowledge of newly arrived students
- experience with special needs work, extra adaptations, and special support
- experience working in an international or bilingual school environment.
