Attending Physician, Assistant Attending Physician or Specialist Physician in Gastrointestinal Oncology – Region Skåne
Gastrointestinal oncology is a rapidly expanding specialty within oncology, with the number of patients under treatment and indications for treatment increasing at a rapid pace. As a GI oncologist within Region Skåne, you work in a multidisciplinary setting. We monitor and participate in twelve different multidisciplinary conferences (MDC) in the region, collaborating closely with many of the region's various surgical tumor teams, radiologists, and pathologists. We aim to provide care and treatment both close to patients for common conditions and centralized for rarer or more complex situations. We staff five different locations: Malmö, Lund, Helsingborg, Kristianstad, and Ystad. You will be placed at a maximum of two of these locations, with opportunities for both developing the smaller unit and participating in and developing the larger, more specialized unit. We are also involved in staffing two wards and on-call lines.
Diagnostic Center in Malmö
The Diagnostic Center is located in Malmö and has expanded rapidly over the past 10 years. The unit serves the catchment area of SUS (Skånes University Hospital). It offers rapid investigations when specific inclusion criteria according to SVF for serious unspecified symptoms (AOS) or cancer of unknown primary (CUP) are met. The unit is based on close collaboration between internal medicine, which is responsible for AOS, and oncology, which is responsible for CUP. At the unit, multiple collaborations have been developed to facilitate investigations, including with radiology, pathology, endoscopy units, surgical units, rheumatology, infectious diseases, laboratory medicine, primary care, and hematology.
About the Position
2 positions
We are now seeking two attending physicians, assistant attending physicians, or specialist physicians in gastrointestinal oncology and/or oncology with the competence to be involved in driving the Diagnostic Center.
In the GI team, you will be one of between 15-20 specialist physicians. We hold regular joint weekly meetings to discuss complex cases, updates, and APT (likely referring to specific departmental protocols or meetings). The team includes two to three resident physicians (ST-läkare) who rotate every three to six months, and educating these colleagues is a significant part of our mission.
Additionally, the team includes several contact nurses, treatment nurses, and secretaries. Many colleagues conduct parallel research, both translational and clinical. The majority of your work will have a clinical focus, involving outpatient and ward activities, as well as participation in multidisciplinary teams/conferences. The positions include on-call duties, primarily as back-on-call (night/weekend backup). We have two primary on-call lines in Malmö and Lund respectively, as well as a back-on-call line for both locations.
At the Diagnostic Center, you work in close collaboration primarily with our nurses and physician colleagues in internal medicine, in a unit with a well-established structure.
Based on your qualifications, you will be offered a position as an attending physician, assistant attending physician, or specialist physician. The main place of work is in Lund or Malmö. The advertisement concerns two full-time positions, but part-time work can be discussed based on preferences. One position is permanent, and the other is initially fixed-term, with the possibility of extension.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who are interested in clinical, patient-oriented work as well as professional development. The work places high demands on your ability to collaborate, your sensitivity, and your ability to convey medical knowledge both in clinical work and in educational contexts for various professional categories, which is why good pedagogical skills are important. Patient focus is central to all operations. Great importance will be attached to personal suitability.
For the specialist physician position, the following are required:
- Swedish medical license
- Specialist competence in oncology
- Swedish language skills at least level C1 according to the Council of Europe scale
- Completed or planned course in clinical supervision
- Good knowledge of basic oncology and radiotherapy, as well as specialized knowledge of gastrointestinal oncology
- Good ability to work in multidisciplinary teams on wards and in outpatient clinics, as well as multidisciplinary teams in relation to other operations
For the assistant attending physician position, the above requirements apply plus:
- Full-time service of at least three years (documented effective time)
- Clinical skill and independence within the main specialty beyond obtained specialist competence
- Defined medical responsibility and area of knowledge
- Documented teaching and supervision merits
For the attending physician position, the above requirements apply plus:
- Full-time service of at least five years (documented effective time)
- Doctoral degree (disputation)
It is meritorious if you have work experience in corresponding areas and research experience, as well as if you can work both at the Diagnostic Center and within the GI unit.
We apply continuous selection in this recruitment. Welcome with your application!
