The Department of Food and Nutrition (IKI) conducts research, postgraduate education, undergraduate education, and collaborative assignments within sports science and nutrition science.

Central areas of interest at the department within sports science are coaching/leadership, teaching/learning, as well as health promotion and performance development. A large part of the department's undergraduate education takes place within the health promotion program, the sports coaching program, and the teacher education in physical education and health, but there are also standalone courses and nutrition science programs.

Subject Description

Sports science refers to sport and physical activity from an interdisciplinary perspective and includes the study of the sporting/physically active individual and the development of sports culture in society.

This position involves sports science with a focus on teacher education in physical education and health.

Job Responsibilities

This temporary position is suitable for you who want to work with a vibrant and developing subject where movement, learning, and health are at the center.

Applicants must have teacher education in physical education and health, as well as experience of teaching at university/college level.

We are looking for you who have good knowledge within sports and health, preferably with a special focus on subject didactics, teaching planning, and practical implementation of teaching for children and young people. You have an understanding of the historical and contemporary development of the subject of sports and can relate the teaching to current regulatory documents, research, and different perspectives on sport, physical activity, and health.

The assignment includes varied and stimulating components, such as indoor and outdoor teaching, outdoor life, movement science, anatomy, physiology, motor development, and health perspectives. You must also be able to plan, conduct, and examine both theoretical and practical components, such as seminars, laboratory-based teaching sequences, practical presentations, and written assignments. We would appreciate if you have knowledge of assessment, equal treatment, and equity.

Qualifications

Qualifications for employment as a teacher are regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 and the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations.

Eligible for employment as a University Lecturer (Universitetsadjunkt) is someone who has shown pedagogical skill and has completed higher education at at least advanced level, or has equivalent competence or other skill that is significant with regard to the subject content of the employment and the tasks included in the employment.

The applicant must have an educational background from the teacher program in physical education and health, and experience of teaching both at the upper secondary school level and within university/college.

The applicant is expected to be able to teach in Swedish.

Assessment Criteria

The applicant's ability to cooperate internally and externally to perform the described job tasks will be considered when assessing suitability for the employment. In this recruitment, the university will primarily consider the applicant who, after a holistic assessment, is deemed to have the best prerequisites to carry out and develop the above-described job tasks.

Employment

The employment is a fixed-term position, a temporary replacement, part-time with a scope of 25–50%, but no longer than until 2026-12-31 or until the permanent employee returns to work. Extension may be considered. Location permanently at the Department of Food and Nutrition. Start date: 2026-08-15, or by agreement.
