Gothenburg University meets society's challenges with diverse knowledge. With 58,000 students and 6,800 employees, the university is a large and inspiring workplace. The Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts consists of the departments HDK-Valand – University College of Music and Drama and the University College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design, as well as the School of Music and Theatre. The faculty is also the host for the international publication platform and biennial conference PARSE (Platform for Artistic Research Sweden), whose purpose is to bring together interdisciplinary artistic practitioners and researchers in dialogue.
HDK-Valand's research environment values a broad and inclusive research concept where knowledge is produced in established research formats, experimental artistic practice, and education. Our research contributes to environmental, societal, and cultural challenges through engagement in interdisciplinary projects. Four research themes revolving around politics, environment, economy, and materiality constitute the areas of interest at HDK-Valand, facilitating collaboration between different disciplines and actors, and forming a broader basis for both research and teaching. An overarching goal is to develop the complete academic environment.
HDK-Valand is now seeking one or more research assistants for an intermittent employment for the research project THINGSTIGATE. More about HDK-Valand: https://www.gu.se/hdk-valand (https://www.gu.se/hdk-valand)
The Faculty's Vision
Given the challenges society faces today, education and research in the artistic field are more important than ever. One of art's strengths is that it creates both perspectives and critical tools, as well as meaning and hope. The Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts is leading in issues concerning art, culture, and learning, as well as creativity and innovation in a broader sense. We are a locally rooted and globally oriented place for art, knowledge creation, critical thinking, visions, and transformation. Art and culture are for everyone, and we are a meeting place for cultural actors, cultural institutions, creative industries, and civil society at large. Our goal is to be a house with many entrances and even more exits.
