The teaching is based on Waldorf pedagogy and is permeated by practical learning, nature, and creativity. We believe that practical work strengthens students' thinking in theoretical lessons, and much of the teaching takes place outdoors in the park or forest surrounding the school. The aesthetic subjects hold a special status, and we have a rich cultural life with theater, music, and seasonal festivals. The school day has a clearly structured rhythm, as does the entire school year, with great emphasis placed on creativity and communication – students are given space and conditions to express themselves.

About Årsta Gård

Since 1958, Årsta Gård has operated a special needs primary and upper secondary school with a Waldorf pedagogical focus. The activity is part of the non-profit Årsta Gård Foundation and also includes LSS housing, short-term stays, and day activities.

The school is beautifully located in a large park by Årstaviken in southern Stockholm. Here, 18 teachers and over 40 assistants work together with approximately 75 students, with a shared vision to create a place where life grows. With experience, knowledge, and commitment, we meet every individual on their own terms and move together, step by step, towards a meaningful and as independent a life as possible.

About the Position

We are now looking for a class teacher for the intermediate level (grades 4-6) in our special needs primary school, starting from the autumn term of 2026. This role involves taking significant responsibility for the quality of teaching and operations in a small class with few students who have high care needs, working together with experienced and knowledgeable student assistants.

You will collaborate with students, teachers, assistants, as well as school and leisure-time coordinators. Teachers primarily teach in groups but also individually when needed. To ensure students can benefit from the teaching in the best possible way, a very clear structure in both planning and teaching is required.

Who are you?

We have an enthusiastic, competent, and dedicated staff group that works systematically and forward-looking. We are looking for a colleague who, like us, strives to develop the operations and contribute their competence.

Personal qualities:

  • Good teamwork skills – you see the work team as a prerequisite for your own development.
  • You have primary responsibility for your class but take significant responsibility for the joint work during various holidays, festivals, and other joint activities.
  • Reflective educator with a solid interest in teaching students with intellectual disabilities in combination with various neurodevelopmental disorders (NPF).
  • Relationship-building with positive expectations of the students as a starting point.
  • Inclusive approach – you are capable of teaching both groups and individuals.
  • Receptive, balancing clear pedagogical planning with room for students' own initiatives.
  • Good understanding of the curriculum and a strong desire to learn new things.
  • Experience with or curiosity about Waldorf pedagogy.

Requirements:

  • Special Education degree with a focus on intellectual disabilities and/or Waldorf Teacher Degree.
  • Experience working with students with intellectual disabilities.
  • Experience working with individuals with severe emotional/psychological challenges.
  • An extract from the criminal record register is required before employment. You can order this from the Police website.

Merits:

  • Knowledge of PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and/or Sign-supported speech.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Experience working with learning platforms (Unikum, Infomentor, or similar).

We offer

  • A unique holistic operation where school, housing, and day activities interact in the same location.
  • A nature-oriented work environment by Årstaviken with park, forest, and gardens as part of the teaching.
  • Dedicated and competent employees.
  • An ideal-driven organization where quality and long-term perspective are central.
  • Wellness allowance and employee support.
