The Department of Education, Didactics and Educational Sociology (EDU) conducts research, postgraduate education, undergraduate education, and continuing education within the fields of pedagogy, didactics, and educational sociology. EDU also hosts several master's programmes. EDU has approximately 250 employees, including around 175 teachers/researchers, 45 doctoral students, and 30 administrators. Responsibilities: The position includes teaching, examination, research, administration, and supervision within preschool teacher, primary teacher, subject teacher, special needs teacher, and master's programmes, as well as in continuing and postgraduate education. This appointment primarily involves teaching in the field of pedagogy with a focus on special needs education, although teaching in other areas of pedagogy – at both undergraduate and master's levels – may occur. Additionally, active participation in the special needs education research group is required, which works, among other things, with inclusion issues, professionalization within the special needs field, and didactic interventions. Teaching responsibilities also include course coordination, course administration, and course development. Furthermore, course leadership duties are included, which involve information, course planning, investigation, and evaluation work.
Qualifications: Eligible for appointment as a university lecturer is someone who has demonstrated pedagogical competence at the university level and has completed a doctoral degree in pedagogy or possesses equivalent scientific competence significant in view of the subject content and duties of the position. The applicant must be able to teach in Swedish. Proficiency in Swedish is a requirement for the appointment, as the majority of the course literature is in Swedish and deals with a Swedish-speaking context where examination tasks and other student texts must be read and responded to in Swedish. For this position, a teacher's degree and teaching experience are required.
Desirable and/or Meritorious Qualifications: Meritorious for this position also includes a completed special needs teacher or special needs education degree and documented experience of teaching work in preschool or school. Having taught children and young people in need of special support is also a merit for this position. Experience of teaching at teacher training programmes and in-depth knowledge of students' language, writing, and reading development, including teaching and support measures in this area, are also considered meritorious.
Teaching experiences should be documented so that scope and quality can be assessed.
The applicant must possess the personal qualities required to perform the duties of the position well. Such personal qualities in this context include flexibility, leadership skills, good teamwork ability, and a sense of responsibility.
When the university hires new teachers, applicants will be selected based on a qualitative overall assessment of competence and skill, judging who has the best prerequisites to carry out and develop current duties and contribute to the positive development of the activity.
About the Position: Individual salary setting applies. The appointment is fixed-term until 2027-07-25. The position is 100%. Start date 2026-09-01 or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
