The Faculty of Engineering and Science consists of three departments with a total of twelve research programs. The Department of Materials Science develops technical solutions within sustainability and energy and educates within our interdisciplinary subject. With the help of innovative researchers and state-of-the-art facilities, we meet today's and tomorrow's challenges in materials science. AI for materials science is an emerging research field that uses machine learning, data analysis, and computational modeling to guide the discovery, characterization, and optimization of new materials. By accelerating innovation cycles, AI in materials science plays a central role in the development of new sustainable technologies for future society.

The Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering conducts interdisciplinary engineering research on infrastructural and industrial socio-technical systems and processes. Our research is strongly linked to sustainable development and is based on extensive collaboration with society and industry. The department's research is organized within two research programs: Industrial Engineering, and Civil Engineering and the Built Environment.

The Department of Electrical Engineering conducts outstanding research and education in electrification, digitalization, and health technology, with applications ranging from renewable energy, electrified transport systems, robotics, AI, 5G/6G communication, smart sensors, and medical technology. Together with need owners, we build medical technology and electrical systems from material and manufacturing understanding to the required software.

The department is organized into four divisions: Electrical Engineering, Technology for Integrated Smart Systems, Solid-State Electronics, and Signals and Systems. Together, we create a dynamic and international environment where research and education meet, and where we contribute to technical solutions that shape future society – both locally and globally.

Job Description:

You will work with:

  • Research: Establishing and leading your research group's work, publishing research results in internationally renowned journals, presenting them at internationally renowned conferences, and actively applying for and obtaining external research grants.
  • Teaching: Teaching includes course responsibility, course administration, and supervision of PhD students.
  • Administration: Participate in the general academic work at the department. This includes serving on committees, taking on responsibilities beyond your own research and teaching assignments, participating in the evaluation and development of teaching and research tasks, solving tasks together with colleagues, and helping and giving feedback to colleagues.
  • Keeping yourself updated within your field of study and following societal developments that are significant for your work at Uppsala University.

In the selection among qualified applicants, emphasis will be placed primarily on both scientific and pedagogical competence, with special weight given to scientific competence. In addition, administrative competence, leadership skills, and collaboration skills will be considered.

About the Position

Fixed-term employment for up to 6 years. The position is full-time. Start date: 2027-01-01 or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
