Description

Being part of the Rescue Service Greater Gothenburg (RSG) means being part of something greater than yourself. We consider it a privilege to be someone others can rely on. Someone who never gives up, who is always ready at a moment's notice. We are a brave organization that looks out for each other. We are the first to enter to solve the problem and the last to leave to secure the area. Ultimately, everything we do is about creating a safer society. This commitment permeates our entire organization and creates an unparalleled feeling of being needed.

Job Responsibilities

As a firefighter, you are often the first on the scene at fires and accidents, and you need to remain calm and confident even in high-pressure situations. However, your empathetic ability is equally important. A large part of the job involves preventing accidents through information and education, whether in a quick encounter in a stairwell or in a classroom. Therefore, we believe you are good at talking to people and building trust.

The role also includes training, education, and maintenance of equipment. As you can hear, no day is like the other. You need the ability to see the big picture and quickly adapt to new situations.

You must be able to help people in crisis as well as handle practical tasks related to the profession. The job therefore requires physical, practical, and social skills, and that you are driven, receptive, and good at collaborating.

Why RSG?

Being part of Sweden's largest Rescue Service Federation, with 14 full-time stations from Kungsbacka in the south to Lilla Edet in the north, offers many opportunities and potential career paths. We have several specialist functions such as UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems), advanced indication, tram lifting, NUSAR (Search and Rescue), and diving. We have our own training facilities, and development is part of RSG's daily life, driven as a national development center to stay at the forefront with the latest technology and most efficient solutions.

At the Rescue Service Greater Gothenburg, we are convinced that differences benefit our work. Whoever you are, we look forward to working with you, provided you share our vision of working together for a safe and secure world, guided by our core values: security, safety, and care.

You need to have:

  • SMO examination (Swedish Firefighter Education), or alternatively, SRV's former 15-week firefighter training.
  • Alternatively, at least five years of experience as a RiB-firefighter at RSG and Grib training.
  • Worked at least 3 months full-time as a firefighter at a rescue service.
  • Certificate for the Swimming and Lifesaving Test "Guldbojen" (Golden Buoy).
  • Category C driver's license.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish in both speech and writing.

Qualifications that are an advantage

It is an advantage if you have worked for a longer period as a firefighter or if you have education or work experience in care and/or social services, or practical trades. We also consider it an advantage if you have worked as a leader and/or educator, or have completed military service. Perhaps you hold a CE driver's license with experience handling heavier vehicles? Do you have other language skills besides Swedish and English? Let us know in your application!

How to Apply

Create an account in Varbi to attach files to your application and answer selection questions.

To ensure your application is complete, it must include the following attached files:

  • CV and cover letter.
  • Diploma from SMO training or SRV's older 15-week firefighter training.
  • Certificate for the Swimming and Lifesaving Test "Guldbojen" completed in September 2025 or later, including a dive of 3-4 meters. The certificate must be signed by a swimming teacher/bath manager/bath attendant with the person's name clarified, phone number, and location where it was performed.
  • Copy of C driver's license.

We would like to remind you that if you are applying for a full-time position but are also interested in working as a summer substitute in 2027, please submit a separate application for the summer position.

Recruitment Process

After we receive your application, a selection is made based on requirements and qualifications. If you proceed, you will be invited to a test day at Friidrottens Hus in Gothenburg, with the option to choose between the days: September 15 and September 29, subject to availability. The employment tests consist, in no particular order, of stress, physical, and height tests. If you are curious to learn more and want to prepare for the physical tests, check our website under: Work as a firefighter - Work with us - RSGBG. If you have previously completed stress and/or height tests with a passing grade, you do not need to repeat this part.

After passing the tests, you will be invited to a digital interview. Thereafter, further selection is made, references are taken, and the final step in the process is a treadmill test (5.6 km/h, 8% incline), medical examinations according to AFS 2023:15, and alcohol and drug tests.

The work involves shift duty, which currently includes two shifts with split days on weekdays and full days on Saturdays and Sundays. You are employed by the Rescue Service Greater Gothenburg, and your placement will be at one of the full-time stations in the federation.

Start date: Spring 2027.

Employment includes war-time placement with general service obligation, meaning you may be called to serve in the event of heightened readiness within the total defense.

We strive to better reflect society as a whole, which is why we welcome female applicants and applicants with other ethnic backgrounds.

Are you interested in working with us? Contact us, and we will tell you more about the position!

Welcome with your application, no later than August 30.
