The Department of Industrial Economics, Industrial Design and Mechanical Engineering is now looking for a PhD student in Industrial Economics.
Education and research are conducted at the department within industrial economics, industrial design, and mechanical engineering. A common starting point for the operations is to develop knowledge about industrial systems, organizations, processes, flows, and products with regard to social, economic, and ecological sustainability. The department has a strong connection to the surrounding society, and students, teachers, and researchers work in close collaboration with business and authorities.
Responsibilities
As a PhD student in Industrial Economics, you will devote the majority of your working time to doctoral studies, which includes writing a scientific compilation thesis with accompanying scientific articles equivalent to 180 higher education credits, as well as completing courses of at least 60 higher education credits. The PhD position may also include teaching and administrative work comprising up to 20% of full-time employment. Such service extends the period of study by a corresponding amount. The focus of the doctoral education is decision support for the initiation of production relocation. The research is conducted within the research project Initiation of Production Relocation: Interaction between Different Analytical Levels, funded by the KK Foundation. The project studies how manufacturing companies initiate decisions to move production. The focus is on the interaction between the macro level (global and national conditions), meso level (regional networks and ecosystems), and micro level (company resources and management decisions). Through close collaboration with industry, new knowledge, models, and decision support are developed that help companies identify early signals and make more proactive and sustainable location decisions in a changing environment.
