Job Description

The Department of Social Studies and Humanities consists of approximately 124 employees. Psychology is one of the subjects within one of the groupings, and together with political science and sociology, we primarily educate future behavioral scientists, political scientists, and labor market researchers. Most work as university lecturers and are active researchers. We conduct teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels and host several university-wide doctoral courses in methodology.

As a University Lecturer at MDU, your primary duties are teaching. In this position, you will teach undergraduate courses in psychological basic theories and scientific methods. You will also work with thesis supervision, course responsibility, quality assurance, and course administration. Other duties include participating in seminars and meetings. Furthermore, it is important that you contribute to a good working environment.

Travel between Eskilstuna and Västerås is included in the employment.

Eligibility Requirements

We are looking for someone who has demonstrated pedagogical skill and has either completed a doctoral degree or possesses equivalent scientific competence. You hold a PhD in psychology or have defended a dissertation based on psychological theory and methodology.

The scientific and pedagogical competence must be documented in such a way that the quality of previous work can be assessed.

To be employed as a teacher at MDU, higher education pedagogical education or equivalent knowledge is required. Those employed who lack higher education pedagogical education will be offered to undergo such training during employment within two and a half years. The higher education pedagogical education at Mälardalen University corresponds to ten weeks of training.

For this position, the following eligibility requirements apply in addition to those established in the Terms of Employment at MDU. You have good proficiency in Swedish and English.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria shall include both the degree of skill required for the position and the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the duties well.

In addition to the assessment criteria established in the Terms of Employment at MDU, special weight will be given to the following for this position:

• teaching within the basic areas of psychology,
• documented ability to perform duties with a sense of responsibility, motivation, and precision within given timeframes,
• documented administrative skill and ability to lead, organize, and develop within education,
• ability to communicate both orally and in writing in Swedish and English.

In a combined assessment of suitability, personal qualities are also weighted. All employees at MDU are expected to collaborate and treat colleagues and students with respect, take responsibility for the operations and their own tasks, and contribute to a good working environment.

It is also important that you have a developed ability to collaborate, take initiative, and possess the ability to work independently and in a structured manner.
