Workplace Description
The research group led by Catharina Hagerling conducts translational cancer research focusing on metastatic cancer in children and adults. The group currently consists of three doctoral students and one clinical pathologist. We are part of Lund University Cancer Centre at BMC and belong to the Department of Laboratory Medicine.

Tasks and Responsibilities
We are looking for a motivated and engaged research engineer with a background in clinical pathology for the project “Uncovering The Non-Random Metastatic Behavior of Childhood and Adult Cancer”. As a research engineer, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the research group's other ongoing projects.
As a research engineer, you will be a central part of the Advanced Cancer research group and contribute to the development of clinically anchored research projects within metastasis biology, precision oncology, and tumor immunology.
The following tasks are included:
- Identification, selection, and quality review of clinical tumor and metastasis samples for research purposes.
- Establishment, further development, and management of research cohorts with associated clinical and pathological data.
- Histopathological assessment of tumor material, including tumor content, tissue quality, immune infiltration, and biomarker expression.
- Quality control of tissue microarrays (TMA).
- Planning, execution, and interpretation of immunohistochemical analyses, including PD-L1, CD8, and other tumor and immune markers.
- Collaboration with Clinical Pathology, the Centre for Molecular Diagnostics (CMD), biobanks, and national research infrastructures.
Qualifications
Requirements for the position are:
- Licensed physician with specialist competence in clinical pathology.
- Documented experience in histopathological diagnosis of solid tumors.
- Experience with immunohistochemistry and biomarker assessment in clinical routine.
- Experience working with clinical research cohorts and biobank material.
- Experience in tumor classification, tissue assessment, and quality control of FFPE material.
- Good ability to work independently while functioning in interdisciplinary research environments.
- Very good proficiency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
Merits for the position:
- Experience in establishing clinical research cohorts and tissue microarrays.
Other Information
The employment is a fixed-term position for 4 months with a workload of 40%. The start date is 2026-09-01 or as agreed.
