Research and education at the Department of Environmental and Earth Sciences (MGeo) address fundamental and applied questions regarding Earth's past, present, and future climate and environment, including human interaction with nature and its consequences for human well-being. MGeo develops and applies groundbreaking methods, models, and techniques within environmental science, Quaternary and bedrock geology, paleontology, physical geography, biodiversity, and ecosystem science, remote sensing, geographic information science (GIS), and computational science for environmental and health studies to investigate processes ranging from the microscopic to the planetary, across all timescales.
Job Description
The work will be carried out at the Hyltemossa Research Station near Perstorp and at Geocentrum II in Lund. The primary duties will be linked to the continuous monitoring programs at the Hyltemossa station. This primarily includes surrounding measurements within ICOS (Integrated Carbon Observation System). To ensure comparability between measurements, the role will also involve conducting measurements and providing assistance for research projects based at Hyltemossa. Fieldwork will include vegetation/soil sampling, forest inventories, installation, and maintenance of equipment. The laboratory component consists of sorting litter from the Hyltemossa spruce forest into different fractions, as well as processing vegetation and soil samples.
Qualifications
- Successfully completed or ongoing studies at the bachelor's or master's level in earth sciences or a related field.
- Previous field experience in forestry or agriculture, GHG measurements, and laboratory experience.
- A valid EU driving license is required.
Additional merits:
- Knowledge of ICOS procedures and protocols.
- Knowledge of forest inventory methods.
- Experience with vegetation and soil sample processing.
- Experience with TLS (Terrestrial Laser Scanner).
- Programming skills in R, Python, or Matlab.

Conditions
The position is temporary for the period from September to the end of December 2026. The position is for 50% of full-time employment.
