In this role, you will become an important source of security in the students' daily lives, combining pedagogical support with medical self-care. Your responsibilities

As a student assistant, you are responsible for contributing to the realization of the curriculum's goals and intentions in the operations. Together with the work team, you plan, implement, and document the pedagogical work at school and in the after-school center.

The role of student assistant involves being a support and resource for individual students or groups of students within the lower secondary school organization. In this role, you have a special responsibility for medical self-care support regarding a student with diabetes, which means proactively monitoring their well-being and supporting with dosing and calculations during the day. The position is combined and also entails pedagogical and social support for other students in the class, including students with NPD (Neurodevelopmental Disorders) diagnoses.

This means being present as support for the student(s) regarding practical challenges that arise during a school day, being present during lessons to clarify the teacher's instructions, and being an extra adult who can support in schoolwork. The working method is flexible and adapted to the needs of the operation; you will work both in the common classroom and with individual students or smaller groups in other learning environments.

The position also involves being present and supporting the student(s) in social interaction with other classmates during after-school hours, and supporting students in the activities carried out at the after-school center in the afternoons. Since your assignment covers the student's entire school day, the position includes working at both school and the after-school center.

In the work at the after-school center, your task, according to the curriculum, is to stimulate students' development and learning, as well as offer students a meaningful leisure time. The activity should be based on the students' needs, interests, and experiences, but also that students are continuously challenged further by being inspired to new discoveries. In teaching, students should be offered a variety of working methods, forms of expression, and learning environments that integrate care and learning.

Your workplace

Folkungaskolan is a combined primary and upper secondary school located in central Linköping, within comfortable walking distance from the city center. There are 168 students in grades 4-6, and we have 16 qualified teachers. All students in grades 4-6 follow a music profile, which means they sing choir songs several times a week and have more music education. The students at the school have a great interest in music and have entered the school via auditions. Throughout the year, several schedule-breaking events with various concerts are held.

You who apply

It is a requirement that you, as an applicant, have an education as a childcare worker/student assistant from adult education or have completed the Child and Youth Program at upper secondary school. It is also a requirement that you, as an applicant, have experience working with students in curriculum-based operations as an employee, through practice, or voluntarily. It is meritorious if you have the following:

• Experience working with students in grades 4–6
• Knowledge of and experience with diabetes
• Experience working with students with NPD issues

You have good communicative skills in speech and writing in the Swedish language. This is because, according to the curriculum (Lgr22), you should organize and carry out the work so that the student receives support in their language and communication development, as well as ensuring that each student can use the Swedish language in a rich and nuanced way.

In your role as a student assistant, you are aware of the goals and quality standards for the operations. You have a good understanding of people's differences and relate to them in a listening and flexible way in teaching and the school's daily life. In your role, you are expected to create good relationships and collaborate well with the contacts that occur. You take initiative and lead the work with students through motivation, engagement, and participation. You also contribute to students' learning by adding enthusiasm, energy, and joy to the work.
