We are now looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Soft Electronics, located at the Department of Science and Technology, Campus Norrköping.

Area of Research

You will work in the Soft Electronics research group at the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE), led by Professor Klas Tybrandt (https://liu.se/en/employee/klaty05). Within the Soft Electronics group, we develop composite materials, design concepts, and components for soft and deformable electrically conducting systems. We explore a range of application areas such as soft batteries, bioelectronics and neural interfaces, stretchable semiconductors for energy harvesting and storage, and actuators. Many of our projects are based on national and international collaborations involving diverse expertise. Read more at Soft Electronics (http://www.liu.se/en/reserach/soft-electronics).

At the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE), we explore the electronic and optical properties of organic semiconductor materials, forest-derived biomaterials, and organic hybrid systems. The activities range from pure basic research to commercialization, where research projects closer to end-users and commercialization are carried out in close collaboration with the institute RISE. LOE currently comprises approximately 175 researchers and doctoral students divided into 13 groups, each led by a principal investigator. Read more at LOE (http://www.liu.se/loe).

Your Responsibilities

A postdoctoral researcher primarily conducts research. Teaching may also be included in the duties, but to no more than one-fifth of the working time.

You will design new concepts, material compositions, and manufacturing methods for sustainable and stretchable printed liquid batteries. The work involves formulation and characterization of liquid battery electrodes that combine electronic and ionic conductivity with charge storage capacity and fluidity. Once optimized, the postdoctoral researcher will investigate new design concepts for liquid batteries and develop tailored manufacturing methods based on printing technology to realize and evaluate the concepts. The developed batteries will be integrated into wearable sensor patches together with collaboration partners within the EU consortium E-FLOWER.

The work is part of ongoing efforts within the Soft Electronics group regarding sustainable and stretchable energy units, led by Professor Klas Tybrandt and Assistant Professor Aiman Rahmanudin. The project will be strongly collaboration-oriented within the group, LOE, and together with RISE. The project is part of the large EU consortium E-FLOWER, which develops sustainable wearable electronics, and will therefore also involve European collaborations.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you are expected to assist in leading the scientific work within your area and supervising students. Areas of responsibility may increase in relation to demonstrated competence.

Your Qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, you must have completed a PhD degree or have a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD. Your degree must be completed no later than the time the employment decision is made.

It is meritorious if your degree was completed no more than three years before the last application deadline for this position. If there are special reasons, it may be considered as completed earlier, for example, in cases of various types of statutory leave.

A suitable background for this position is a PhD in materials science, nanotechnology, materials chemistry, or related fields. Experience in stretchable electronics and battery development is desirable. Meritorious personal qualities for the position include high motivation, drive, problem-solving skills, and teamwork skills. Research at LOE is conducted primarily in English in an international environment, so good English skills are desirable.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.

About the Position

The employment is for a fixed term of two years with the possibility of extension, with a total employment period of up to three years. The position as a postdoctoral researcher is full-time.

Start date: Autumn 2026 or as agreed.

Salary and Benefits

The university applies individual salary setting.
