Your responsibilities

Folkungaskolan is now expanding its operations with two full-time mentors. Since these are new positions at the school, you will get to help establish working methods and collaborations.

Full-time mentors have the task of relieving teaching staff of tasks related to student mentoring. In the role of a full-time mentor, you will work with student support. This means that:

• Participate in student health and safety work at the school
• Work with contact with guardians and other stakeholders
• Participate in mentor time, development talks, parent meetings, etc.
• Encourage and coach students and work with motivational interventions, support during lessons or during other parts of the school day
• Follow up on student attendance/absence and work with corrective measures
• Help students with structural support, study planning, and study skills
• Meet students as an accessible adult in the school environment and during break activities

You will also work with the implementation of developed action plans for individual students, work both preventively and directly with rules of conduct and study environment. The role of full-time mentor with us involves many areas of collaboration within our operations. You are expected to collaborate with the deputy principal, teachers, other full-time mentors, as well as other professionals in our student health team and other important adults at the school.

As a full-time mentor at Folkungaskolan 7-9, you primarily work with half of the school's classes. The role involves a varied daily routine where you work with different types of support through both planned and more urgent interventions and activities. You are expected to drive your work independently while working together with these classes' regular mentors, student health staff, teaching teachers, resource personnel, and school management.

Your workplace

Folkungaskolan is a combined primary and upper secondary school with approx. 1500 students and approx. 170 teachers. The school is located in central Linköping, within comfortable walking distance from the city center. The mix of students from both primary and upper secondary school makes Folkungaskolan something unique, not only in Linköping, but in the entire country.

Folkungaskolan's grades 7-9 consist of seven parallel classes with approx. 630 students in total, where all students have a profile or specialization. The school has three different profiles: Dance profile, choir profile, and art and design profile. The school also has three different specializations: Future orientation, music production specialization, and home and consumer studies specialization.

You who apply

It is a requirement that you have a pedagogical, social, or behavioral science education at the upper secondary or post-secondary level. For example, we would like to see that you have education as a student assistant, teacher, counselor. Alternatively, you have another education or experience that the employer deems equivalent.

It is a requirement that you have previous experience working with young people in a school context. Good computer skills and the ability to handle digital tools are necessary.

It is meritorious if you have:

• Experience in student health work
• Work experience with students in middle school
• Knowledge of different conversation methods, for example, motivational interviewing
• Knowledge of working with children and young people's language skills
• Experience working with young people or students in need of support, for example, with high school absenteeism or mental illness
• Knowledge of laws and regulations in primary school

Since communication and documentation are a large part of the position, it is a requirement that you have good knowledge of Swedish, both orally and in writing.

As a person, you are outgoing and enjoy creating professional relationships, while being able to distinguish between the personal and professional. You have good collaboration skills where you smoothly relate to and consider the individual needs for support of students and colleagues. By enthusiasm and motivating others, you create participation and engagement. Furthermore, you have an easy time communicating clearly and following up on agreements. Quite often, long-term interventions and relationship building are needed to help young people. This requires patience and the ability to change your method if necessary.
