Your responsibilities
As a full-time mentor at Elsa Brändström School, you work as targeted support for a few students who need extra support in their schooling, either pedagogically or socially. The students' support needs vary, and in your role, you are expected to base your approach on the individual student you meet and be very flexible in the support you provide, with the aim of helping the student succeed in school.
Full-time mentors have the task of relieving teaching staff of duties related to student mentoring. This includes among other things:
- Being a secure adult presence at the school.
- Having close and structured cooperation with guardians, the student health team, teachers, and external actors around the student.
- Planning and participating in mentor time, development conferences, parent meetings, etc.
- Encouraging and coaching students, as well as working with motivational interventions, goal setting, and future planning.
- Monitoring student attendance/absence and working with corrective measures.
- Helping students with study planning and study techniques.
You are part of a work group with approximately 10 colleagues who together are responsible for active safety and values-based work, for example, you plan safety-enhancing activities at the school together.
Your workplace
Elsa Brändström School is a centrally located school for grades 7–9. We have approximately 450 students across six parallel classes and about 60 employees. High quality in subject teaching, combined with job satisfaction and a sense of belonging, is associated with the school. We have a specialized curriculum that trains students in English. You who apply
It is a requirement that you have a post-secondary education in a relevant field, according to the employer's assessment. For example, you may be trained as a youth leader, leisure-time pedagogue, treatment pedagogue, or social pedagogue. Alternatively, you have many years of relevant work experience in similar tasks. It is a requirement that you have experience working with adolescents in middle school. It is meritorious if you have any of the following experiences:
- Worked with students in primary school.
- Worked with students with NPF (Neurodevelopmental Disorders) or challenging behavior.
- Worked in a resource school.
- Worked in a special education group.
- Safety-enhancing work with youth.
- Close contact with guardians.
- Youth with risky behaviors.
Since communication and documentation are a large part of the position, it is a requirement that you have good knowledge of Swedish, both orally and in writing.
As a person, you are outgoing and enjoy building professional relationships, while being able to distinguish between the personal and the professional. You have good cooperation skills, relating to and addressing the individual support needs of students and colleagues in a smooth manner. By inspiring and motivating others, you create participation and engagement. Furthermore, you communicate clearly and ensure your message gets through.
