School Counselor in Nässjö Municipality

Nässjö is a medium-sized municipality with approximately 30,000 inhabitants located on the Småland highlands. To realize these values, the Municipal Council has adopted a strategic and long-term development plan for preschool and school.

Within the Child and Education Administration, we work consciously and purposefully to provide every child and student with the tools required to seek knowledge in life. The goal is for every child and student to develop according to their prerequisites and feel joy and pride in their achievements.

We are now looking for you who want to work as a School Counselor in Nässjö Municipality. You will be part of the psychosocial effort of the Student Health Service, which is part of the Central Student Health Service. The Central Student Health Service consists of a broad competence with various professions. In addition to school counselors, there are school doctors, school psychologists, school nurses, special educators, special teachers, speech therapists, pedagogues, student coaches, and development teachers.

Your Role

As a School Counselor, you will have an important role in the school's student health service and school development. You will be part of the school's student health team, working closely with other professions. As a School Counselor, you work in a promoting and preventive capacity with the aim of creating a good environment for students' health, learning, and development.

The School Counselor is an expert in social work and social legislation. The assignment is governed by the Education Act, the Social Services Act, the Discrimination Act, the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act, as well as municipal steering documents.

What does the job entail?

  • Planning and implementation of promoting and preventive work.
  • Individual student and parent contacts, support conversations, and school social investigations.
  • Participation in follow-up regarding students' school attendance.
  • Collaboration with teachers and contact with other authorities such as social services, habilitation, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (BUP).
  • Actively driving the value-based work in the school and striving to ensure that human rights and democracy are followed.
  • Professional conversations (support, motivational, crisis, and conflict conversations) as well as investigative, advisory, and processing conversations with individual students and their families.
  • Investigate and assess the social and psychosocial situation for individual students and the school as a whole.
  • Initiate and participate in reports to social services and police.
  • Document performed efforts in the school's journal system.
  • Work with individual students and groups in acute needs and for preventive purposes.
  • Participate in the Student Health Team (EHT) and safety teams.
  • Contribute to the competence development of other school staff within the social and psychosocial area.
  • Participate in crisis groups.
  • Collaborate with societal resources: social services, psychiatry, habilitation, police, and youth clinic.
  • Contribute to school development.
  • Be a good external representative for the school as a social worker.
  • Keep up-to-date within the profession.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a degree in Social Work (Social Work) or another equivalent behavioral science education. Experience working with children and young people and experience as a School Counselor is meritorious.

You have good insight into the school's goals and steering documents, knowledge of other administrations and, for example, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (BUP), as well as knowledge of practice and guidelines within the area.
