We are looking for a University Lecturer in Political Science for a fixed-term position at the Department of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences.

The subject area for the position is Political Science.

Background

The Department of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (HumUS) offers education at undergraduate and advanced levels within a broad spectrum of subjects and areas, both in the form of standalone courses and programs. Research and doctoral education are also conducted at HumUS. The department is characterized by cross-disciplinary collaboration and a desire to continuously develop both education and research.

Örebro University offers education in Political Science at all levels within the undergraduate program. Most of the subject's education is conducted within the Public Administration and Leadership program, but Political Science courses are also offered within other programs. In addition, there is doctoral education with its own doctoral student group. Research is conducted at the Department of Political Science within various central areas. Examples include research on political participation, political culture, political socialization, information technology and security, political extremism, environmental policy, the role of civil servants in political processes, democratization, and state formation. The department's research is distinguished by multidisciplinary collaborations that result in international publications.

Job Responsibilities

As a University Lecturer, you will devote your working time to teaching at all levels, research, and related collaboration. In addition to teaching, research, and collaboration, the job responsibilities include development work, administration, and competence development. The teaching also includes supervision, examination, course development, planning, and evaluation.

The job responsibilities primarily consist of teaching, supervision, and examination in Political Science courses within the undergraduate program and in courses on societal planning and sustainable development at undergraduate and advanced levels. Teaching in program-specific courses within the Public Administration and Leadership program is also included. The position also offers time for independent competence development. Therefore, research is expected to be conducted independently or in collaboration with colleagues within the framework of the employment.

Örebro University expects high presence at the workplace and participation in both subject-specific and unit- and department-wide tasks.

Qualifications

Eligible for appointment as a University Lecturer is someone who has demonstrated pedagogical skill and has obtained a doctoral degree in a subject relevant to the position, or has equivalent scientific competence or other professional skills that are significant considering the subject content of the position and the tasks involved.

Evaluation Criteria

When appointing teachers, both scientific and pedagogical skill are assessed and should be given equal consideration. In the assessment, merits from collaboration with the society of which the university is a part should also be valued, as well as national and international experience and mobility. Teachers should have the ability to inform, collaborate with the surrounding society, and promote the utilization of the university's research. Furthermore, the applicant's suitability is assessed. Suitability means that the applicant should display personal qualities required to perform the current job duties, the ability to collaborate with other staff, and the ability to contribute to the development of the operations.

Information

The position is 70–100% for 5-6 months with start date by agreement. Individual salary setting applies. 20% research is included.
