Description

The Mother Tongue Unit is a municipal activity within Child and Student Support in Trollhättan Municipality. Here, mother tongue teachers and study advisors work together to support students' linguistic and academic development.

Every week, we teach and advise nearly 2,000 students in approximately 30 different languages. We are now looking for a study advisor who wants to contribute to students' learning, participation, and development in school.

Study advising in the mother tongue is an important support measure for multilingual students.

Job Responsibilities

As a study advisor, you work to support students in their knowledge development in various school subjects. The work takes place at schools throughout Trollhättan Municipality, and the position is itinerant (mobile).

The role includes, among other things:

• providing study advising in the student's mother tongue based on the student's needs and the school's planning
• supporting the student in understanding subject content, concepts, and tasks
• switching between the mother tongue and Swedish to strengthen the student's language and knowledge development
• collaborating with teaching teachers, mentors, and other school staff
• contributing to the student having better conditions to meet the knowledge requirements in subjects where support is needed
• using digital tools and pedagogical working methods as support in advising

Study advising can be conducted before, during, or after lessons depending on the student's needs and the school's organization. Collaboration between the study advisor and the teaching teacher is an important part of the role.

A driver's license is an advantage since the position involves working at several schools, but it is not a requirement.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have very good knowledge of the student's mother tongue and Swedish. You need to be able to use both languages in a way that helps the student understand subject content, develop their vocabulary, and strengthen their learning.

You should have:

• very good knowledge of the mother tongue
• good knowledge of Swedish, both orally and in writing
• ability to explain subject-specific concepts within various school subjects
• familiarity with the Swedish school system
• good teamwork skills and the ability to build good relationships with students and staff
• ability to adapt advising to the student's needs
• good digital competence and experience working with Office

It is meritorious if you have experience of working in schools, study advising, teaching, or other pedagogical work. It is also meritorious if you have experience with StudyBee or other digital school platforms.

As a person, you are responsible, flexible, and clear. You have a professional approach and view the student's mother tongue as a resource in learning. You also have the ability to support students without simplifying the subject content, so that the student has the opportunity to develop as far as possible.
