Do you want to work in an intrapreneurial setting where students have up to 10 years to develop knowledge and values in a safe environment? Then Almby School is the workplace for you. Come and enrich our wonderful team with your joy and competence!

About the position

We are looking for a special needs teacher with a specialization in intellectual disability (ID) to join us at Almby School. In this role, you will work at our adapted primary school, primarily focusing on subject areas for grades 1–9. The school also offers a focus on subjects for grades 4–9.

You will be part of a team consisting of four other teachers and one after-school care teacher. Together with the rest of the workgroup, you will strive to create a good pedagogical environment with the goal that all students reach their objectives, feel well, and develop according to their prerequisites. You will work in an environment where practical and theoretical elements are mixed based on the students' needs, with digital aids such as iPads and computers being a natural part of the daily routine. Since the students have intellectual disabilities (ID) as well as several other diagnoses, including those within NPF (Neurodevelopmental Functional Impairments) and medical conditions, it is important to work towards a clear structure and to make the learning environment as accessible as possible. You will actively engage in promoting and preventive safety work.

In each class, there are several student assistants who support teaching and the students' other needs. In this role, you will serve as a qualified conversation partner in guiding the student assistants within the workgroup. Good collaboration with guardians and external contacts is important. You will work with assessments and collaborate with special educators and other members of the student health team regarding adaptations and potential action plans. In Örebro Municipality, there is an extended network of teachers from other adapted primary schools with whom you can collaborate.

Examples of tasks:

  • Plan, conduct, and evaluate teaching.
  • Mentor students and lead the work of the workgroup.
  • Lead/participate in meetings with guardians as well as other internal and external contacts.
  • Collaborate with other staff within the unit and in the student health team at the school to ensure a holistic view of the work at our school.

About the workplace

Intrapreneurial Almby School is a school for all students regardless of background, prerequisites, and needs. We want to be a role model for a more integrated Örebro, where diverse backgrounds enrich the students and where all students are the responsibility of all adults. The school has a service function including maintenance, administration, IT, library, and cleaning, which works to create the best conditions so that other staff can provide students with the best education possible. We invest in solid collegial learning and a strong student health service. We are a school with a strong focus on our two main tasks – knowledge and values. We want our students to leave Almby School with good self-esteem, empathetic abilities, and well-prepared for life.

In this role, you will belong to one of four units within our school. The unit includes three classes with a focus on subject areas, including after-school care. Currently, there are a total of 20 students and approximately the same number of staff. There is also collaboration with the adapted primary school's subject focus for grades 4–9, which is part of the 7–9 unit. The other units at the school are F–3, 4–6, and 7–9, each led by an assistant principal. The school is ultimately led by a principal. The school has a large student health team with several special educators, special needs teachers, school nurses, and counselors, led by two team leaders.

Within the Preschool and Primary School Administration, approximately 4,530 employees work. We meet the young people of Örebro from their first day in preschool to their last day in primary school.

We are jointly responsible for contributing to creating equal conditions for the young people of Örebro and laying the foundation for learning that extends throughout life.

Qualifications

As a special needs teacher with us, it is important that you are secure, stable, and have self-awareness. You are receptive, communicate clearly, and contribute to a calm and safe school environment for our students. You enjoy working in a team with colleagues but also have the ability to take individual responsibility and structure your tasks. Furthermore, you adapt easily to changed circumstances and have a solution-oriented approach. You have knowledge of child development and learning, as well as the ability to adapt teaching based on the group and individual students' needs and prerequisites. Additionally, you master the Swedish language to the extent that you can communicate with students, guardians, and colleagues, as well as document what the operations require. You are computer literate as the work involves digital documentation.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Requirements:

  • Teacher certification with eligibility to teach in primary school grades F–3 or preschool teacher certification.
  • Special needs teacher degree with a specialization in intellectual disability (ID).
