About Oxelösund and the Workplace
In the archipelago town of Oxelösund, you have close access to housing, work, transport, services, nature, and the sea. The municipality, strategically located in eastern Sörmland, has 12,000 inhabitants and a rich cultural and association life. It is just over an hour to Stockholm and just under an hour to Norrköping. The regional airport, the E4 highway, and the railway are also not far away.
Oxelösund Municipality is a small municipality with big ambitions. We are curious and dare to find new solutions, think big thoughts, and come up with exciting ideas. To succeed, we work closely together. We collaborate and work towards a common goal; to give everyone who lives here the best conditions for a good life. The fact that we are close to each other is evident, for example, in how we help each other and take advantage of each other's strengths. The proximity of administrations and operations also means that it is never far between employees and managers. Which in turn leads to short decision-making paths and getting a lot done.
About the Position
In the adapted school, students with intellectual disabilities attend, often in combination with multiple disabilities such as ADHD/autism, visual impairment, hearing impairment, or physical motor disabilities. We combine an important pedagogical mission with the care needs that exist. Our daily life is based on the understanding that structure and clear routines are cornerstones for our students' security. In the classroom, there is often one teacher and several student assistants who support the students and each other.
1 position(s).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Your main task as a student assistant in the adapted school is to support students throughout the school day. Common tasks include:
- Clarify the teacher's instructions during lessons, for example, you communicate through oral explanation, sign language support, sensory stimulation, or picture support.
- Lead lessons when necessary, based on the teacher's planning.
- Follow students' self-care plans, for example, testing blood sugar, injecting insulin, administering medication, and tube feeding.
- Support students in practical challenges during the day, for example, toilet visits/diaper changes, break activities, during meals, meeting up for taxis, lifting, and transfers.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, student health teams, and other colleagues in an unpretentious and well-functioning work team.
- Maintain contact with guardians and relevant professionals in collaboration with the responsible teacher to support the student's development.
- Actively contribute to the school's joint work for a learning environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed.
You have a close collaboration with the teaching teacher where you both receive instructions and collaborate on how the work should be performed. Your role includes having close contact and collaborating closely with other staff at the school and other actors regarding the students. Contact with guardians is also included.
The position may involve working with one student, with a few students, or being present as support for all students in a classroom. As a student assistant, you contribute to students reaching the goals of the curriculum. Together with the work team, you plan, carry out, and document the pedagogical work in the class. You need to be flexible in your role, adapt your approach based on what the situation requires, and have a fingertip feel to meet the student/student group based on the students' individual conditions on that particular day. You meet students in affect and acting-out behavior with a low-affective approach.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for you who have a genuine interest in working together with people and who have the ability to see different opportunities where others might see obstacles.
To succeed in the role, it is required that you maintain your calm and focus in intense situations and act controlled when conditions change quickly. You must be able to adapt your working method to the student's daily condition.
You take responsibility for your tasks, see what needs to be done, and drive your work forward in collaboration with close colleagues, guardians, and other actors within the school world for the student's best interest.
For the position of student assistant, it is also required that you:
- Have completed education in pedagogy, alternatively care and social services, or equivalent post-secondary education.
- Have education and competence in AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) and ADHD, as well as experience with autism or multiple disabilities.
- You have good communicative skills in speech and writing in the Swedish language. This is because according to the curriculum (Lgr22), you should organize and carry out the work so that the student receives support in their language and communication development.
- Are secure, stable, flexible, clear, and have a professional approach.
- Have good knowledge of low-affective handling.
- Have previously worked with students in need of special support.
- You can work physically, as lifting and transfers with assistive devices occur as a natural part of everyday life.
- A B driving license for smaller buses with manual transmission is a requirement.
Employment type: Permanent employment.
The position is filled on the condition that it does not need to be taken over by already employed staff or that the conditions for recruitment change.
The position may be filled before the advertisement period has expired.
To be considered for employment in this position, you need to show an extract from the criminal record before you are employed. Such an extract needs to be ordered by you as the applicant. If it becomes relevant, you will receive more information from the recruiting manager.
Since Oxelösund Municipality is part of the Swedish-speaking area of Finland (note: original text says "finskt förvaltningsområde" which usually implies Swedish-speaking Finns in this context, but literally means Finnish administration area. Given the location in Sweden, it likely refers to the Swedish-speaking minority or specific bilingual requirements. However, literal translation is "Finnish administrative area". I will translate literally but keep the context neutral). *Correction*: Oxelösund is in Sweden. The text says "ingår i finskt förvaltningsområde". This is likely a typo in the original text for "svenskfinländskt" or similar, or it refers to a specific historical/administrative quirk. However, standard interpretation for Swedish municipalities often involves Swedish and Finnish languages due to proximity or specific minority rights. I will translate it as "Finnish administrative area" to be faithful to the source, though it might be a specific local term. *Self-correction*: Actually, many Swedish municipalities have Swedish-speaking populations. If the text explicitly says "finskt", I will translate it as "Finnish". It is possible the municipality has a specific agreement or historical context. I will stick to "Finnish administrative area".
As Oxelösund Municipality is part of the Finnish administrative area, we welcome applicants with knowledge of Finnish. Other language skills in addition to Swedish and English are also seen as positive.
Oxelösund Municipality makes an active choice of advertisement place and possible recruitment support for each recruitment. We contact ourselves those we choose to advertise with. Therefore, we decline all offers to purchase advertisement space or recruitment support.
