Job Description
Your main task as a student assistant in the adapted school is to support students throughout the school day. Common tasks include:
- Clarify the teacher's instructions during lessons, for example, by communicating through oral explanations, sign language, sensory stimulation, or visual aids.
- Lead lessons when necessary, based on the teacher's planning.
- Follow students' self-care plans, such as testing blood sugar, injecting insulin, administering medication, and tube feeding.
- Support students with practical challenges during the day, such as toilet visits/diaper changes, break activities, meal times, meeting taxis, lifting, and transfers.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, the student health team, and other colleagues in a flat-hierarchy and well-functioning work team.
- Maintain contact with guardians and relevant professionals in collaboration with the responsible teacher to support the student's development.
- Actively contribute to the school's joint work to create a learning environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed.
You work in close collaboration with teaching teachers, where you both receive instructions and collaborate on how the work should be carried out. Your role involves having close contact and collaborating closely with other school staff and other actors regarding the students. Contact with guardians is also included.
The position may involve working with one student, a few students, or being available as support for all students in a classroom. As a student assistant, you contribute to students achieving the goals of the curriculum. Together with the work team, you plan, implement, and document the pedagogical work in the class. You need to be flexible in your role, adapt your approach to what the situation requires, and have a sensitive touch to meet the student/student group based on their individual conditions on that day. You meet students in affect and outbursts with a low-affective approach.
Your Future Workplace
In the adapted school, students with intellectual disabilities attend, often in combination with multiple disabilities such as ADHD/Autism, visual impairment, hearing impairment, or physical motor disabilities. We combine an important pedagogical mission with the care needs that exist. Our daily life is built on the understanding that structure and clear routines are cornerstones for our students' security. In the classroom, there is often one teacher and several student assistants who support the students and each other.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have a genuine interest in working together with people and who have the ability to see different opportunities where others might see obstacles.
To succeed in the role, it is required that you maintain your calm and focus in intensive situations and act controlled when conditions change quickly. You must be able to adapt your working method to the student's daily condition.
You take responsibility for your tasks, see what needs to be done, and drive your work forward in collaboration with close colleagues, guardians, and other actors within the school world for the student's best interest.
For the position of student assistant, it is also required that you:
- Have completed education in pedagogy, alternatively care and social services, or equivalent post-secondary education.
- Have education and competence in AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) and ADHD/Autism, as well as experience with autism or multiple disabilities.
- You have good communicative skills in speech and writing in the Swedish language. This is because, according to the curriculum (Lgr22), you should organize and carry out the work so that the student receives support in their language and communication development.
- Are secure, stable, flexible, clear, and have a professional approach.
- Have good knowledge of low-affective handling.
- Have previously worked with students in need of special support.
- You can work physically, as lifting and transfers with aids occur as a natural part of everyday life.
- A B-driver's license for smaller buses with manual transmission is a requirement.
