Your responsibilities
As a doctoral student, you will help develop a research project on neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) and mental health issues in children, particularly girls. The focus will be on co-occurring symptoms of NDD and other types of disabilities, for example, symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in conjunction with developmental coordination disorder (DCD). You will be admitted to the doctoral programme in the interdisciplinary subject of Disability and Society.
The work involves developing and conducting an independent research project. The project includes data collection, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and writing scientific articles for international journals. Data collection involves recruiting and contacting children with NDD. The research is conducted interdisciplinarily in close collaboration with researchers within various disciplines.
As a doctoral student, you will devote yourself to your doctoral studies and the research project you are part of. Your work may also include teaching or participation in other departmental duties, up to 20 percent of full-time.
Your qualifications
You have completed a degree at an advanced level within a subject relevant to disability and society, such as psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, or another relevant field, or completed courses totaling at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits are at an advanced level within one of these areas, or have otherwise acquired substantially equivalent knowledge.
You must have:
- Good ability to communicate in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing.
- Documented experience or knowledge within NDD, obtained from work, education, research, or similar.
Especially meritorious:
- Documented experience of quantitative data analysis.
- Documented experience or knowledge within mental health, obtained from work, education, research, or similar.
- Documented experience of data collection, for example, administered and analyzed surveys and/or conducted semi-structured interviews.
Meritorious:
- Documented ability to independently formulate and address scientific questions.
- Documented experience of qualitative analysis.
- Documented experience of administering and evaluating psychometric tests.
- Documented experience of applying practices within open science.
The project is conducted in an interdisciplinary research context and in close collaboration with several researchers. Therefore, a good ability to work independently is required, as well as the ability to collaborate constructively in research groups. Furthermore, analytical ability, attention to detail, and a structured working method are required.
The application must include a project plan (max 2 pages) where you have designed a research question and relevant design in line with the call, as well as describing your research interest in relation to NDD and mental health. This is used to assess your ability to address scientific questions.
