Responsibilities

As a University Lecturer at MDU, your primary responsibilities will be teaching. Teaching also includes supervision, examination, course evaluation, and course and program development. At our university, research and education are closely intertwined, with research forming the foundation of our educational programs. Collaboration is also an integrated part of our research and educational mission, and as a University Lecturer, you will actively contribute to the university's development work. The role also includes general administration, competence development, and participation in daily operations, as well as work within the subject area and the academy.

You will teach and supervise Swedish with a focus on linguistics and communication on standalone courses in Swedish, on courses within the Language and Communication program, and in the future, possibly on a master's program. You will also teach and supervise Swedish on teacher education programs.

If the qualifications are met, teaching may also include Swedish as a Second Language or other courses at the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities (e.g., Behavioral Science program, Social Work program, Political Science program).

Eligibility Requirements

We are looking for someone who has demonstrated pedagogical skill and has either completed a doctoral degree or possesses equivalent scientific competence.

The scientific and pedagogical competence must be documented in such a way that the quality of previous work can be assessed.

For employment as a teacher at MDU, higher education pedagogical training or equivalent knowledge is required. Those employed who lack higher education pedagogical training will be offered to undergo such training within the employment, within two and a half years. The higher education pedagogical training at Mälardalen University corresponds to ten weeks of study.

In addition to the requirements established in the Terms of Employment at MDU, the following eligibility requirements apply for this position: You must hold a doctoral degree in Swedish, Nordic languages, or equivalent.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria shall include both the degree of skill required for the position and the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the duties well.

In addition to the assessment criteria established in the Terms of Employment at MDU, special weight will be placed on the following for this position:

• Previous experience of leadership and/or administrative roles within academia.
• Experience of teaching Swedish and Swedish as a Second Language in higher education.
• Degree in education relevant to the position (e.g., teacher education).
