About the Operations
The Joint Management Administration consists of the operational areas Democracy & Service, Economy & Procurement, Working Life & Digital Technology, Strategic Urban Planning, Fire & Rescue Service & Security, and the Support Staff.
The administration is tasked with leading, supporting, and coordinating the entire municipal organization on behalf of the Municipal Executive Board. This is done by focusing on customer needs, maintaining a holistic view, and using common working methods. We are a learning organization that promotes innovation and learning from both the external environment and each other.
The Fire & Rescue Service & Security operational area is characterized by responsibility, collaboration, and strong civic engagement. Here, we work to create safety for residents and businesses through preventive work, supervision, education, and interventions in accidents and crises.
In total, 128 people work within Fire & Rescue Service & Security. In the operational part, there are 35 full-time firefighters, 57 rescue personnel on standby (part-time firefighters), and 20 people in the rescue reserve. The position is linked to the fire station in Borensberg.

Job Responsibilities
Your tasks include maintaining standby readiness, responding to alarms, and participating in exercises to become proficient in procedures related to our most common types of accidents. These may include fires, traffic accidents, medical emergencies, or water rescues.
Standby time is scheduled according to a rolling schedule of 168 hours per month or according to other local agreements. Training and exercise time is approx. 60 hours/year.
After one year in the position, you must complete MSB's Basic Training for Rescue Personnel on Standby (GRIB). See MSB.se. This is a paid training totaling 6 weeks, divided into two parts. Planning for when these two parts will be conducted is done in dialogue with the employer.
Qualifications
To build a good fire and rescue service, we are looking for people of different ages with a diversity of backgrounds and experiences. You are confident in yourself, stand up for your opinions, and have the courage to speak up when necessary. You have the ability to separate facts from personal matters and feel secure even in uncertain situations. It is important that you work well with other people, relating to them in a listening and flexible manner. You can adapt and seek solutions through an unpretentious approach focused on the common goal. You do your best by doing what you can right now.
Standby and Response Time
- Being a firefighter on standby means you can get to the fire station in the event of an alarm, whether you are at home or at your regular workplace. Alternatively, you have the opportunity to work from home during your standby period. Therefore, it is important that you both live and work within 7 minutes of the fire station in Borensberg.
Driver's License
- At the time of employment, you must have at least a Category B driver's license. Category C is an advantage. If you do not have Category C when the employment is signed, you must begin training to obtain a Category C license. The employer contributes to the cost.
Good Physical Fitness
- The work as a firefighter is physically demanding; therefore, you need to be healthy according to AFS 2023:13 and maintain good physical fitness.
Permission from Employer
- You need approval from your main employer to be on standby during regular working hours.
Swimming Ability
- Swimming proficiency in accordance with the Silver Buoy. Verified by a certificate from staff at a swimming pool. The certificate must be presented before proceeding to the health check.
Tests
- You will undergo a treadmill test wearing turnout gear and approx. 20 kg of equipment, at 4.5 km/h with an 8-degree incline for 6 minutes.
- You will also undergo a test course where we test stamina, strength, claustrophobia, and how you handle high heights. If you proceed, you will undergo a health check.
- Training within municipal fire and rescue service – It is an advantage if you have already worked within Fire & Rescue Service elsewhere or have training in municipal Fire & Rescue Service.
