Job Description

As an assistant in courses within Technical Physics and Technical Design at Mid Sweden University's Civil Engineering programme, you will play an important role for new students by primarily assisting them during laboratory sessions in the course Engineering Methodology. Your tasks include explaining problem setups, answering questions, and guiding students through the laboratory sessions. You are expected to have good knowledge of the laboratory sessions and be sufficiently pedagogical to provide help in a clear and understandable manner. You will also need to be socially adept enough to identify when students need help or guidance.

Your tasks will also include collaboration with other students and staff at the department to ensure that the laboratory sessions are carried out in an efficient and safe manner. This involves participating in meetings and collaborating with the course coordinator and other assistants to ensure that the laboratory sessions are well-prepared. You will also need to help evaluate students' performance and give feedback on their work.

Your tasks will primarily be in the course Engineering Methodology but may also include other courses and project supervision in the later part of the programme. In the role of assistant, you will have the opportunity to develop your pedagogical and communicative skills while helping other students succeed in the laboratory sessions. You will be part of a positive and supportive work environment and have the opportunity to build valuable contacts within your education.

Your Background

We are looking for you who are:

• A student in one of Mid Sweden University's Civil Engineering programmes.
• Passed at least 42 hp from year 1, including Engineering Methodology.
• You are expected to have good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in Swedish and English.
• It is meritorious if you have a high grade in the course Engineering Methodology.
• It is meritorious if you have good knowledge of Python (with Numpy).
• It is also meritorious if you have experience with design projects.
• It is also advantageous if you are in some way engaged in the reception of new students.

Your Qualities

To be successful in the role of assistant, we are looking for students who are both engaged and pedagogical. You are a communicative person who enjoys working with other people and can adapt your way of explaining complex problems in an easy-to-understand manner. You have a positive attitude towards helping others, are patient, and have the ability to give constructive feedback.

We also see that you have a positive attitude and can collaborate effectively with other laboratory assistants and teachers in the course. You have the ability to work independently when needed and are willing to take on extra responsibility when needed to support the students and ensure that the course runs smoothly.

Employment and Start Date

As an assistant at Mid Sweden University, you have what is called an intermittent employment. This means that you will belong to a personnel pool and be employed on each individual occasion and receive economic compensation per hour. How much you can work varies, as you are offered work when there is a need. This means that you will be offered occasional, short-term employment opportunities starting on 2026-08-24 and ending no later than 2027-08-23.

The course starts on 2026-08-31 and you are expected to be able to participate in a kick-off meeting with information about the employment, the laboratory sessions, and preparations sometime between the 24th and 28th of August.
