Visiting Lecturer in Sociology

Your workday as a university lecturer

You will work with teaching and supervision in courses at both undergraduate and advanced levels. An important part of the role is also to, in collaboration with colleagues, drive a continuous development of courses and programs. Currently, teaching is primarily conducted within various existing educational programs at the undergraduate level such as the Social Work Program, Social Science Program, Human Resources and Working Life Program, and to some extent other social science programs. Additionally, teaching is conducted in the form of standalone courses in sociology. Your tasks will also include conducting research and some administrative duties.

Are you the person we are looking for?

According to the Higher Education Ordinance and Employment Regulations, those eligible for employment as a university lecturer in non-artistic fields must have demonstrated pedagogical skills, have obtained a doctoral degree or have equivalent scientific competence or other professional skills relevant to the subject matter of the position and the tasks included in the employment.

For this position, the following is required:

  • completed doctoral degree in sociology,
  • experience in teaching at various levels within the field of sociology,
  • experience in supervising theses or dissertations,
  • demonstrated pedagogical skills through varied contributions to education; such as planning, implementation (teaching and examination), and evaluation that have contributed to the development of pedagogical activities,
  • ability to teach in Swedish,
  • good collaboration skills, being communicative, responsible, and having a high degree of accountability.
  • breadth and depth in research and independence as a researcher,
  • the extent of research demonstrated through nationally and/or internationally published works.

Meritorious:

  • administrative skills and experience in program and course responsibility,
  • experience in hybrid or distance education.
  • have been an applicant and/or co-applicant in national and/or international calls for research funding.
  • qualifying higher education pedagogical training

Assessment Criteria

The university will consider those who, after a qualitative overall assessment of scientific and pedagogical skills as well as other qualifications relevant to the position, are deemed to have the best conditions to fulfill the tasks of the position.

Equal care will be given to the assessment of pedagogical skills as to scientific skills according to HF chapter 4.

The Position

The position is a temporary appointment for seven months, full-time, starting from 20260701. Dalarna University operates at two locations. The place of employment for this position is Borlänge, with some work also occurring in Falun.
