Postdoctoral Researcher in the Fex-Can Research Program

The position is placed in the research group of Caring Science.

The research group hosts the interdisciplinary research program Fex-Can, which conducts research on sexual and reproductive health among young adults who have been treated for cancer. The research program includes various projects, some of which test and evaluate internet-based treatment programs to reduce fertility concerns and sexual problems after cancer treatment. The project group members are based at Uppsala University, Karolinska Institute (Stockholm), and Umeå University. We are currently testing an internet-based treatment program in a randomized controlled pilot study where research participants are recruited through advertisements, patient organizations, and hospitals. The study is delivered via the platform at Linköping University, but some data collection is carried out within the research group.

Job Responsibilities

You will primarily be engaged in an ongoing randomized controlled treatment study. In the first step, we conduct an internal pilot study to investigate the feasibility of an internet-based psychoeducational intervention to reduce sexual problems and fertility concerns among individuals diagnosed with cancer before the age of 40. If the established progression criteria are met, the study will continue with the intention of testing the effect of the treatment study.

Job responsibilities related to the treatment study include administration of the portal where the treatment study is conducted, distribution and contact with patients, screening interviews of potential study participants, initiation calls with participants randomized to the treatment arm, follow-up of participants, and final interviews with selected participants. The position also includes responsibility and shared leadership for a group of individuals who have themselves been treated for cancer, in a co-creation process.

The position also involves analysis of self-reported data that has already been collected, which will be compiled into scientific articles. The self-reported data primarily relate to health and include health-related quality of life, anxiety and depression, sexual function, fertility-related concerns, and body image. Additionally, you will participate in the work of the research group.

Qualifications

A background in caring science research encompassing quantitative and qualitative methods is required for the position. Excellent knowledge of English and Swedish, both spoken and written, is a requirement. We place great emphasis on personal qualities in the appointment of the position; the applicant should be structured, analytical, meticulous, and possess good social skills and collaborative ability.

A PhD in caring science or medicine, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD in caring science or medicine, is required. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Preference will be given to candidates who have obtained their degree within the last three years. In calculating the three-year time frame, the last application date is the starting point. If there are special reasons, such a degree may have been obtained earlier. Special reasons include leave due to illness, parental leave, or trust assignments within trade union organizations, etc.

Desirable/meritorious

Research experience in reproductive and sexual health targeted at individuals who have had cancer is meritorious, as is engagement in participant-based research or collaboration with stakeholders. Knowledge of analyzing data in R and running linear mixed models (LMM) is desirable.

About the Position

The position is temporary for two years according to central collective agreements. The extent is full-time. Start date is April 1 or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
