Job Advertisement: Part-time Research Assistant
The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was founded in 1971 with the aim of conducting research and offering education in the field of peace and conflict studies.
The department is now a young, dynamic, and international workplace with about 90 staff members and around 1000 students from all over the world. Courses are offered in bachelor's and master's programs, and we have a doctoral program. More about the department's activities can be found at http://www.pcr.uu.se (http://www.pcr.uu.se).
The department is seeking a part-time research assistant to assist with two ongoing research projects. The first project analyzes the war in Ukraine, with a particular focus on infrastructure destruction and its broader societal and political consequences. The second project examines how climate extremes and environmental conditions affect health. The project leader is Stefan Döring.
Both projects are anchored in the department's research on armed conflict, environmental changes, and human security, and involve systematic data work, monitoring current events, and research support across several parallel tasks.
Responsibilities
The research assistant will provide research support to both projects. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Monitoring and documenting current events related to the war in Ukraine
- Assisting in data collection, data management, and integration of multiple datasets
- Participating in the review and compilation of scientific research articles
- Supporting analyses of infrastructure destruction, environmental effects, and conflict dynamics
- Conducting targeted literature searches and background work
- Other research-related tasks within the projects as needed.
Qualifications
To be employed as a research assistant, it is required that you are enrolled in undergraduate or graduate education. Furthermore, the following is required:
- Ongoing studies in peace and conflict studies
- Previous experience in conflict monitoring, preferably related to the war in Ukraine
- Experience working with databases, including data collection, management, or coding
- Excellent command of English (reading and writing)
- Documented ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Meritorious
It is meritorious if you also have:
- Excellent knowledge of Ukrainian
- Knowledge of Russian
- Knowledge of environmental or infrastructure-related consequences of war
- Familiarity with climate extremes, environmental stressors, or the relationship between environment and health
- Previous experience working with data in conflict, environmental, or health fields.
