Mission Specialist GSS/K at 2nd Helicopter Squadron

The 2nd Helicopter Squadron is announcing a position for Mission Specialist, GSS/K, at the 21st Helicopter Division/Hkp16.

The 2nd Helicopter Squadron is a military unit located at the Helicopter Wing/Malmen, Linköping. The squadron is a ground operational transport helicopter unit primarily providing helicopter support to the army and its units, but also to other branches of defense, authorities (including the police authority), and regions as needed and possible.

About the Position

The Mission Specialist GSS (US) is a GSS/K in flying service and is part of a helicopter crew. Three to four crews make up a flight strength, and two to three flight strengths form a division. The flight strength commander is your immediate supervisor, and the crew is your primary work group. Normally, a crew consists of two pilots (a commander and a co-pilot), a technician in flight service (TIF), and a US.

Together, you will solve missions of varying difficulty at all hours of the day, year-round, either individually or together with other crews. During flight, you, as part of the crew, have an important role to fill to ensure the task can be accomplished, and flight service is your main responsibility. A crew works together until all tasks are completed.

We are now seeking 2 US as GSS/K. Upon employment as GSS, you may become eligible to train as a specialist officer after a number of years.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the commander in planning flight service together with the crew.
  • Assist in preparing the helicopter and restoring used mission equipment after the flight.
  • As part of a crew, conduct flights both as self-training and flight missions.
  • Be responsible for mission equipment such as sling load equipment, machine guns, medical equipment, etc.
  • During flight, be responsible for passengers and/or cargo and assume one or more roles such as door gunner, medic, or surface rescuer. If you are not already trained as a medic, you may become one.
  • In a couple of years, the position may allow for development in various areas of interest such as survival, SERE, communication, UND/SEC, etc., in consultation with your immediate supervisor.

The position requires that you are somewhat self-sufficient and can take responsibility for planning and carrying out your physical training as well as other annual recurring requirements related to flight service.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Class B driver's license
  • Approved basic military training
  • Fully healthy with good vision. See the Swedish Armed Forces website for more information regarding medical tests and requirements for flight service.

Meritorious

  • Trained medic
  • Previous service in a crew, such as combat boat, armored vehicle, or equivalent
  • Driver's license for light all-terrain vehicle/minibus
  • Service as group leader/deputy group leader (OR4-5)
  • Training on Ksp58B

Personal Qualities

We are looking for someone with good teamwork skills, humility, care, self-awareness, and a high level of security awareness. Additionally, you should be flexible, driven, and able to take initiative as the position will vary in intensity.

Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.

Selection

The position is preceded by a selection process in several steps, including supplementary testing at Special Selection. For more information about the selection process, see the Swedish Armed Forces website regarding selection for mission specialists.

Employment

Employment is based on the Swedish Armed Forces collective agreement for the employment of group leaders, soldiers, and sailors (GSS/K). This may involve a 6-month probationary period and thereafter employment for up to 8 years with the possibility of extension for 4 years. The employment entails full-time service with periodic readiness for various tasks and mandatory overseas service.

Start Date

By agreement. The first year will begin with basic crew/flight training, as well as other training related to flight service, which will involve some absence from the home location.

The last application date is April 5, 2026.
