Adapted Primary School

The adapted school forms are a separate school form for students who are assessed not to have the prerequisites to meet the knowledge requirements of primary or secondary school due to an intellectual disability.

The adapted school forms have their own curriculum, and the teaching is tailored to each student's prerequisites and needs. Within the adapted school forms in Gotland, we teach students from grades 1-9 in adapted primary school and grades 1-4 in adapted secondary school.

Currently, we have about 80 students enrolled in adapted primary school and about 50 students enrolled in adapted secondary school. Our employees contribute to the learning and development of children, youth, and adults in Gotland. The operations within the adapted school forms are currently located in several schools around the island.

Your Responsibilities

We are now looking for 2 special teachers for a specific operation, teaching younger students with significant needs for adaptations. You should be qualified to teach subjects and subject areas. You should have a great interest in people and the ability to create good relationships. As a special teacher within the adapted primary school, you work based on each student's development and prerequisites. The students have an intellectual disability and are at an early developmental stage.

As a special teacher, you are responsible for planning and implementing the educational activities. You are also involved in the work around systematic quality management. You may teach both subjects and subject areas. You work based on students' needs, interests, and prerequisites. The work can sometimes be physically demanding and includes some care.

Who Are You?

We are looking for you who are a qualified special teacher with a focus on intellectual disabilities, qualified to teach subjects and subject areas.

If a qualified special teacher cannot be recruited, there may be an opportunity for a subject-qualified teacher to receive a temporary employment as a special teacher in adapted school, in combination with a permanent position as a teacher within the primary school sector.

Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities or disabilities is an advantage. A driver's license is desirable.

You have a great interest in people and the ability to create good relationships. You are flexible, solution-oriented, and responsive to students' individual prerequisites. It is required that you are calm and pedagogical with great patience and the ability to create security for each student. You have a positive attitude towards work. You need to have clarity in your actions. You master Swedish fluently in speech and writing.

We place great emphasis on previous experiences and personality. The work requires your ability to plan and prioritize your tasks. We see that you have good knowledge of the school's governing documents. It is important that you are good at collaborating with others to achieve set goals together.

About the Education and Labor Administration

As part of Region Gotland, we contribute in the Education and Labor Administration to the learning and development of children, youth, and adults. We are responsible for, among other things, preschool, primary school, leisure centers, adapted primary and secondary schools, cultural schools, high school and adult education, labor market initiatives, youth centers, and the reception and establishment of newcomers. Together, we provide opportunities for lifelong learning.
