Södervärnskolan

Södervärnskolan is a primary school with activities for students in grades 4-9. The school currently has about 670 students, of which approximately 150 are in grades 4-6 and the remaining in grades 7-9. There is also an after-school program at the school. The catchment area includes southern Visby, Eskelhem, Västerhejde, Träkumla, and Stenkumla.

Södervärnskolan actively works to lay the foundation for a good learning climate by creating good relationships so that students feel comfortable and safe. In teaching, the starting point is the individual student's needs and abilities, which develop in a group, resulting in good collaboration skills and social competence. A prerequisite for students' learning is that teachers can point out the next steps in the development process.

This gives students the opportunity to have a goal to strive towards, and they should know how to get there. Students should leave school as knowledge-seeking and critically examining individuals with good self-confidence, humanistic values, and engagement. The school uses computers as digital learning tools and Unikum as the learning platform. The school has a newly renovated library and school café, as well as social pedagogues for extra security for students. Södervärnskolan has a good sports hall and access to its own rooms for home economics and crafts. A counselor and school nurse are available at the school daily.

Your Responsibilities

You will work as a teacher in social sciences in our fantastic team at Södervärnskolan, where you will be part of a developing journey together with us! You will teach grades 7-9 and be a mentor and responsible for a class together with a colleague. Your responsibilities include planning, implementing, and following up on teaching based on students' conditions, as well as documenting students' learning processes and contributing to the development of the subject and the school's activities together with other teachers.

You will be part of a working team where you collectively are responsible for the students' academic and social development. At Södervärnskolan, you will meet an enthusiastic and competent staff group with a forward-thinking attitude and a desire to continuously develop. You will have access to subject teacher colleagues who collaboratively plan, evaluate, and follow up on teaching.

Who Are You?

We are looking for someone with a subject teacher degree in one or more social science subjects, particularly social studies and geography, and that you are qualified to teach in grades 7-9.

You are confident in your teaching role, a clear leader, and well acquainted with the school's governing documents. We see that you have the ability to meet students individually and spread a positive study atmosphere in your teaching. You can create trusting relationships with students and parents, work independently, and have good leadership both in and outside the classroom, as well as capture and stimulate students' curiosity, interest, and learning. You have high and positive expectations for students and their ability to develop.
